I'm a guy in jail because I look like another guy. A chick who is kind of hot just knocked a guy out and wants me to kill millions of enemies with her when I've never held a sword in my life?
You just got the first few minutes of Infinite Undiscovery and guess what? It works. It works really well.
Chains bind the moon to the earth and a group of people are trying to take care of that problem. In your way is a bunch of strangely dressed people who seem to have their own reasons for wanting to keep the moon there. This game is hard to play, not because its bad, but because its like watching Battle Star Galactica. Each step forward you feel like the sacrifice is becoming too great.
The game play is actually quite good. You have a lot of places to explore, a lot of side quests to dive into and there are so many side characters that it'll be hard to fully get the story in one play through. You find that everyone has a reason to join the Liberation force and the best part is that it doesn't center around the main protagonist so you're not some summoned hero that's brilliant and wonderful. You're a guy doing the best you can and though you have some deep relationships you can enjoy watching the other relationships expand.
The world is beautiful and engaging. The story takes you to a lot of places, its hard to pick just one to talk about. There's a town that's completely underground, an underwater palace that doesn't make me go into a coma thinking of Majora's Mask and events where you lead a group of characters and the missions are fun, engaging and you feel a real sense of urgency.
The story is about people doing what it takes to do the right thing and free their world from the chains. They are breaking free of their invisible crutches and chains while destroying real physical chains.
Here's the full on simple truth. If you like RPG's, If you like a lot of side quests, if you don't mind having an action based RPG combat system then this game is going to be awesome for you. If you're like me you'll be playing and find yourself feeling exactly like the main protagonist. I enjoy him so much because he's real and his emotions are real and he's not perfect. Including a point where you find that he's completely closed his heart to everyone except one person where his thoughts are "I can still use her, that's it."
This game is deep and the only gripe I can say about it is that its main mechanic is a link system that you don't fully understand until the end of your first playthrough. Seriously it took me that long to figure it out. Once you get it though, it becomes an awesome thing and the mechanic is fun and engaging and offers so many ways to deal with situations.
A 4 out of 5.
Reasons for a 4 and not a 5:
The main mechanic of the game is complicated and needs some additional explanation.
The first three hours of the game are slow and I felt no reason to go on. Had I not just pressed on I would have missed out on an amazing experience.
There are specific things that are locked and I feel like they should be better communicated so you have a chance to do everything.
