Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the fifth installment in the Star Ocean franchise. Developed by tri-Ace and released on March 3, 2009, the action role-playing game follows Edge and his team as they set out in the wake of World War III to explore the universe and find a new place that humanity can call home. Star Ocean: The Last Hope is a prequel to the rest of the Star Ocean games, recounting the first voyages into space. The game features solid game mechanics, a fun battle system, and amazing graphics. Fans of the role-playing genre will feel right at home with the lengthy and detailed storyline.
Star Ocean: The Last Hope contains 50 achievements. The game requires a minimum of three full playthroughs to gather all of the available achievements. A quick playthrough of the game on the default difficulty will take about 30-40 hours. To get all the achievements you’ll be taking your time through the first playthrough, meaning it will likely take a minimum of anywhere from 60-70 hours. The subsequent 2 required playthroughs will take anywhere from 30-50 hours depending on how well you handle the difficulty increase. All told, expect to spend well over 120 hours to get all 50 achievements.
WARNING: This guide does contain some spoilers, though they have been kept to a minimum. Mostly the spoilers come in the form of boss and playable character names. I have done my best to limit story spoilers, including them only where absolutely necessary.

Ultimate Battler (10G)
Obtain 100% of all battle trophies.
There are a total of 900 battle trophies in Star Ocean: The Last Hope, with 100 being assigned to each character. You will have to control each character during battles to obtain the trophies, though the accumulation trophies (such as “Win xx number of battles”) will count battles where the character was controlled by AI, you just need to control them for one battle after they’ve accumulated the correct amount.
For the specific trophies, head back to a previously visited area where the enemies are fairly weak. Set all of your characters to manual control so that they do nothing, then control the character you need to work on (this is also a great way to build up a desired battle board). A full list of trophies can be found at the end of this guide. Note that you can work on this over multiple games, so you do not need to get all 900 on one playthrough. Completed trophies carry over when you import the collection data, but individual trophy progress does not (you can’t win 50 battles with a character in one game and another 50 in a second game to get the “Win 100 battles” trophy).
You will get achievements for every 90 trophies you unlock. Collect all 900 battle trophies and this final battle trophy achievement is yours.
Ship Savant (20G)
Collect 100% of all spaceship data.
There are a total of 22 spaceships that you can find information on. You get the information by inspecting terminals in different areas. The following list contains the areas for each terminal:
Collect all 22 ships and the achievement is yours.
Arms Addict (30G)
Collect 100% of all weapon data.
You’ll need to collect data on 147 weapons for this. You’ll get most of the data by simply buying or creating weapons, but there are some that you’ll need to inspect props to get. Any time you find a new shop you will need buy one of every weapon they have. The following checklist lists every item and where to find it:
Collect the data on all 147 weapons and the achievement is yours.
Creature Collector (20G)
Collect 50% of all monster data.
You need to fill out 50% of the monster data log by fighting 77 unique monsters. You do not need to fill out all of the data for each monster, just fight them once for the entry. See “Monster Master” for a complete list of monsters. Fight 77 unique monsters and the achievement is yours.
Monster Master (30G)
Collect 100% of all monster data.
You need to fill out 100% of the monster data log by fighting all 154 unique monsters. You do not need to fill out all of the data for each monster, just fight them once for the entry. See below for a complete list of monsters. Some of these monsters are missable, so I suggest filling out the monster log as you go.
Fight all 154 unique monsters and the achievement is yours.

See “World’s Biggest Welch Fan” for a complete list of craft items. Create 257 items and this achievement is yours.
World’s Biggest Welch Fan (20G)
Create 100% of all possible items.
There are a total of 321 items that can be created. For a detailed guide on how to discover each recipe I suggest checking out The Pants Party’s guide on xbox360achievements.
Craft all 321 items and the achievement is yours.
Treasure Hunter (20G)
Open 50% of all treasure chests.
If you haven’t missed any chest you should get this achievement while inside the Purgatorium. See “Treasure Hoarder” for more info. Get 50% of the treasure chests in the game and the achievement is yours.
Treasure Hoarder (30G)
Open 100% of all treasure chests.
Many chests in Star Ocean: The Last Hope are in fact missable, so be careful. Ensure that you search areas completely before leaving and always recharge your rings before entering new areas (many areas, especially dungeons, cannot be reentered after you complete them). Creating separate save files throughout the game may also help you, especially if you’re on the fourth optional playthrough and still haven’t gotten this achievement. If you are having a lot of problems, this guide lists all the chests throughout the game and lets you know which ring is needed for each. Get every chest in the game and the achievement is yours.
Errand Boy (20G)
Complete 30% of all quests.
See “Dutiful Deliverer” for details.
Potential Postman (20G)
Complete 60% of all quests.
See “Dutiful Deliverer” for details.
Dutiful Deliverer (30G)
Complete 100% of all quests.
There are a LOT of quests in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Quests include helping people out and orders. A general tip is to talk to everyone in every town you find, including shop owners. This will ensure that you receive all the possible quests. The best time to aim for this achievement is during your first playthrough, as you have to switch Faize for Arumat in order to complete every quest. There are some missable quests, so I suggest checking out this guide for full details. Complete all of the quests and the achievement is yours.
Reimi’s Ending (10G)
View Reimi’s ending sequence.
It is possible to receive all 9 endings in a single game, and that’s the best way to go about this achievement. This guide offers a great walkthrough to get all 9, so I suggest you follow that. If you follow it correctly you should get all 9 ending achievements after completing your first playthrough.

Colosseum Charter (10G)
Broke into the top 30 in solo or team battle rankings.
See “Colosseum Champion” for details.
Collosseum Challenger (20G)
Broke into the top 10 in solo or team battle rankings.
See “Colosseum Champion” for details.
Colosseum Champion (30G)
Took over the top spot in solo or team battle rankings.
You will find the Colosseum in Tatroi on Planet Roak. You’ll need to complete the quest “Where’s the Receptionist?” to open the Colosseum, then it’s just a matter of fighting your way to the top. The solo bracket is a bit easier, but you’ll need to complete the team bracket to complete your monster data, so I suggest doing that to save time. To reach the number 1 spot you will likely need your party to be above level 100, so this is best left until later in the game. Reach the top slot and the achievement is yours.
Hasty Hare Handler (10G)
Earned 50 victories in class 100 bunny racing.
See “Rapid Rabbit Wrangler” for details.
Rapid Rabbit Wrangler (20G)
Earned 100 victories in class 100 bunny racing.
The Bunny Races are located in Tatroi and are unlocked after completing the quest “Listless Bunny” that you can get after unlocking the Colosseum. To win 100 races in the 100 class I highly suggest maxing your bunny’s stats out. You can do this by feeding it pies that you make in item creation: Speed Pie, Acceleration Pie, and Stamina Pie. Miracle Pies can be used as well, but I suggest using them early as they increase a random stat. After your Bunny is maxed it’s just a matter of practice and patience. Win 100 races in the 100 class and the achievement is yours.
Celestial Slayer (40G)
Defeated Gabriel Celeste.
Gabriel Celeste is the final boss of the Cave of Seven Stars. This dungeon can only be entered after you’ve completed the game. Save your game when prompted, load it, and you’ll be placed before the final boss again, but now there will be two elevators nearby. Enter the west elevator and defeat the Undying Dragon to gain the Darkness Ring. You can use this ring to unlock the light seal guarding the Cave of Seven Stars in the west wing of the Colosseum. Clear the dungeon and the achievement is yours.
Ethereal Executioner (40G)
Defeated the Ethereal Queen
The Ethereal Queen is the final boss of the Wandering Dungeon. This dungeon can only be entered after completing The Cave of Seven Stars. After clearing that dungeon, head to En II. Take the elevator to the Road to the Old Sanctuary and talk to Barago there. Barago will lead you to the Wandering Dungeon. Clear the dungeon and the achievement is yours.
Universal Victor (30G)
Completed the game on the Universe difficulty level.
You will need to complete the game on Galaxy difficulty to unlock the Universe difficulty. In Universe difficulty, all enemy's HP/MP, ATK, INT, and GRD are multiplied by 1.3, and enemy's rush gauges increase 1.5 times faster. Other than that the game is the same as Galaxy.
Chaotic Conqueror (70G)
Completed the game on the Chaos difficulty level.
You will need to complete the game on Universe difficulty to unlock the Chaos difficulty. In Chaos difficulty, all enemy's HP/MP, ATK, INT, and GRD are multiplied by 1.7, and enemy's rush gauges increase 2 times faster. Other than that the game is the same as Galaxy and Universe.

Quick Guide
First Playthrough:
- Play on Galaxy difficulty (required to unlock Universe difficulty).
- You’ll want to get every achievement in this playthrough, with the exception of Universal Victor and Chaotic Conqueror. It is possible to earn every other achievement in one playthrough, though it’s not easy.
- Do not sell anything! There are a lot of inventions that require items, and a lot of orders will require multiples of things, so it will benefit you on your first playthrough to battle for money rather than selling items.
- Make sure you check the guides below for the Endings to ensure that you get them all in one playthrough.
- Faize will leave your party during the course of the game, so make sure that you learn all the recipes that require him (mainly the sabers). During subsequent playthroughs you can choose to keep him in your party, so you can save his battle trophies for then if you don’t feel like grinding them all during the first playthrough. If you are going to keep him in future playthroughs, be sure to get Crowe’s and Arumat’s endings during this one!
- Missable things:
- Aeos
- Speak to Van for a recipe memo inside the Calnus.
- After beating the second boss, make sure to buy an Eldarian Bow from the base before leaving the planet.
- Complete ALL available quests here before leaving, they will not be available later.
- Lemuris
- Complete all of the orders in Triom before finishing the Celestial Ship.
- Cardianon Mothership
- Charge the fire ring before starting.
- You will only be here once, so ensure that you obtain all of the chests, weapon/monster/spaceship data.
- Collect the 5 Lizardskin required for the order on Aeos. This is the only chance you’ll have to gather them before the order expires.
- Alternate Earth
- Charge the fire ring before starting.
- You will only be here once, so ensure that you obtain al of the chests and monster data.
- Aeos
Second Playthrough:
- Complete the game on Universe difficulty.
- Make sure you transfer your collection data over so that you can fill in anything you may have missed the first time.
- Work towards any endings you missed the first time around.
Third Playthrough:
- Complete the game on Chaos difficulty.
- Make sure you transfer your collection data over so that you can fill in anything you may have missed the first time.
- Work towards any endings you missed the first time around.
Fourth Playthrough (Optional):
- If you’ve received all the achievements obviously this playthrough won’t be needed. If you’re missing anything, read on.
- Choose to keep Faize during this playthrough, this will give you two endgame saves: one with Arumat, one with Faize.
- This is the easiest place to finish off any remaining battle trophies and monster data that you may still be missing.
