Stock surges? What did the guy do that his retirement makes stock surge? I agree with SiNAR, didn't think I would see the day...

I don't know if this is a good change or a bad...the news articles are making it seem like the best thing that happened to Microsoft in recent times.

Sure, Microsoft wasn't doing the best it could but it wasn't in ruins either.

LOL MSFT will never be in ruins.

Yeah, you would think the guy went around stabbing people in the crotch and burning down orphanages or something like that, hahaha.

I wish him well for his future endeavors. He had a big role to play in where Microsoft is standing today.

First Don Mattrick, now Steve Ballmer? Looks like the big CEO's are gone for Microsoft, I hope someone better can replace him.

Yeah a lot of people are actually happy to see Steve Ballmer gone as they feel he played a major factor in where Microsoft has come these past few years. There definitely seems like big changes are going to come soon to the company as so many key figures are leaving. I'm now really interested in who will replace Ballmer. Hopefully whoever it is does a better job.

I'm always optimistic! That's sarcasm by the way. I am fearing that the new guy will screw everything further, but I guess if the new guy did that he wouldn't last too long inside the company... we'll see what happens now!

Good. The guy has been consistently shown that he's out of sync with the consumer's wants. He's caused several failures in the past years (Windows Phone, Surface RT, Windows 8, etc), and has consistently underestimated the competition (He has said that the iPhone had absolutely no chance of having a significant market share, that Google was just a "house of cards", etc).

I don't think he'll be too upset either. Given the raise in the stock market and the fact that he own 359 million shares, he has made over 800 million dollars today.

I'm sorry about my cynicism, but this guy should have been fired over a decade ago, not just now. I was always a Microsoft fanboy, but this guy has always been the wrong guy to head the company. The whole restructuring going on right now is a direct consequence of his mismanagement. So... goodnight sweet prince.
