This came to me today. I was reading on about Bravely Default, an FF-inspired RPG for the 3DS and its sequel. The developers have said the sequel to the former would have more focus on story than exploration. This then reminded me about my friend's take on Skyrim and Dragon Age: Origins. According to her, she prefers Dragon Age Origins because it has more story than Skyrim. Skyrim, while it has story, is pretty massive on the exploration, but when it comes to story, well... you're not really focused much since you explore more. Origins is small on that but it's got the story to prove it's a good game.

So let me ask: when it comes to the games like the ones I mentioned, do you prefer story or exploration?

When it comes to games I take into account the exploration quality of the game. How big the game can be in terms of maps and how many places can you go to. Story only comes second in terms of considering a game.

Well you have a point. It does make the game interesting, but well for me I look for a good story first and second is exploration.

I don't really look into the story the much. Exploration and the characters are what's important to me.

The more places to go to the better. I agree.

Yeah, like I said, the bigger the map the better, dungeons and all would make a game really interesting, second would just be the story.

Hmmmm.... for me, it's both. But depending on the game though, I enjoy it for whatever it gives more. If it's the story, then well, the story. But if it's exploration, then exploration. Sometimes, some games just get me more into the story than exploration and vice versa.

Wow, interesting question. Hmmm... I'm more on the side of thedoodseven. It all depends on the game.

Exploration baby. There's something about exploring a world way, way away from the story that just immerses you into the story. Like Fallout 3. That game has me exploring all other parts of the Capital Wasteland even without thinking of the storyline. Just going through places and then doing sidequests just rocks.

Like thedoodseven. All depends on the game because sometimes, the story is just as good as the exploration. If it's story, story. If it's exploration, exploration.

Makes sense. Well I agree not most good games with exploration levels higher than others make good games in total.

Well no matter how crappy the game is I still enjoy the exploration part of it. as long as I can go places i'm good.

It's way better to measure the overall experience rather than just exploring the whole thing.

Booyah man. Exploration is really good. Something about the game's world makes exploration all the more fun.

Yup, I agree with this. The overall experience is what makes the game all the more awesome.

Makes sense. Well I agree totally on this. It really doesn't matter if you have a huge map or a great story as long as all the components of the game go hand in hand to create a great experience for the player.

Kudos. Sometimes, exploration is just nothing and the story is just bogus at times. But when you put the two elements together, yes, that's where it matters.

I agree. No more arguments on that, plus ragnafable11 did made a point to it.
