Alan Wake, one of my personal favorite games on the 360. Actually looking at this forum, it makes me a little sad that there are no other topics discussing this amazing game, but I suppose that's where I come in. I'm here to fill that gap that is left here in the darkness... Apparently nobody else has a flashlight...

Get it? A little Alan Wake humor! Dark vs Light? Flashlight is his... primary weapon?
Haha?

Heh?

*ahem*
Well then.
Bad jokes aside, I really do love this game. It's true that it has its issues, what with some absolutely terrible lip syncing and some less than amazing voice actors... ok Alan's voice was good but I digress. This game probably had one of the best stories I've seen in any video game. The plot twists that it took made me rage, facepalm, and even yell at my TV multiple times because I didn't know what was going on. (The Shoebox. Anyone who's beaten it knows what I mean. No spoilers please, but even still WTF?)

My personal favorite part of the game was "Children of the Elder God." You and your partner Barry basically take over the personal stage of the in-game rock band the Old Gods of Asgard to combat the enemies of darkness. A pretty sweet rock song plays in the background as you fight off wave after wake of the Taken. Definitely makes you feel like a beast. At least it did me anyway...

...

So has anyone else played this little gem that's lost in the Xbox library? If you have, then what is your favorite part of the game and what do you think of this amazing story?

I hadn't come across this game before, but it sounds interesting and the YouTube videos look pretty good. Is it proper scary, or more just slightly creepy? How long would you say it takes to play it through?

I didn't find it either scary or creepy, most of the time, but the story sure makes you wonder what is going and what is gonna happen next. It's a very good game if you're looking for a nice story. I am still sad the proper sequel hasn't been announced yet, as I found American Nightmare to be very lacking in story and it tried to be too actiony (it also sucked that there were 3 areas and you have to replay each area 3 times with some variation)

I do like games with an absorbing storyline, so I'll add it to my 'must-try' list.

Is a sequel on the cards? I agree that it's disappointing when they put out a half-hearted 'semi-sequel' after a game is successful - you want to tell them, "look, put the time and money into making something really amazing for us instead of cobbling together a quick cash-in"!

I am not sure. I remember hearing quite a lot about them planning an "Alan Wake: Season 2", which would be the sequel but I don't think they ever actually announced anything or confirmed anything. I am hoping that they announce Alan Wake 2 at this year's E3.

There is a sequel in the works, but it sadly hasn't even been announced yet. I'm definitely anticipating it however. American Nightmare was a ton of fun, and Mr. Scratch is probably one of my favorite villains in any videogame... ever. I think I remember reading that before the first game came out they had... I think a 10 year plan for Wake or something like that. Even still though, the first one came out about 3 years ago, so it is about time for them to, if nothing else, finally announce it.

Perhaps they meant that it would take 10 years for them to make the sequel! Just kidding. That would be the worst thing. But they are certainly taking long enough! Alan Wake 2 might just be a next-gen game at this rate.

Why is it that some games (usually really great ones) take forever to spawn a sequel, yet other games often see multiple sequels in quick succession? Like, how many versions of Guitar Hero have there been in the last few years? I guess it's easier to tweak something that already exists and hope that people will buy the new one as well as the original, than it is to invest significant time in making something new. :(

Alan Wake is notorious for having delayed development and the Devs never though that the original would ever hit the market. They had a lot of speed bumps and the fact that it got done and it was playable at all was amazing to some people. It turned out to be a pretty interesting game in the end and I'm thinking about doing a collectibles run of the game because the game is a lot of fun. The one thing I do have to say is that they seemed to try to pull an idea of Silent Hill into their game. You have these bits of story and when the darkness comes, stuff gets real.

The problem is that its not very scary, nor are you in a survival situation that's overly out of control. The enemies are aggressive but the weapons in that game are so rewarding. When you're dealing with the Taken it feels good to explode them with light and let loose a bit of fury.

And come on... possessed train ...sweet

I got a chance to play this game on my PC last year. Yeah, I didn't buy it for my 360. It's so epic!

I enjoyed the game a lot. It was definitely better than American Nightmare. I played the game pretty much straight through until I finished it because I wanted to see how it ended. While not necessarily the most challenging game, it was worth getting it on sale for sure, as the story was solid and I enjoyed the play through.

I haven't played this game before but it seems like a good friend of mine would play it. I think I will look at some YouTube videos and see what the game is all about.
