I just purchased a replacement and did the board swap but had no success. It still will not play games, it tries to play DVD's but fails..

Any idea if its a bad replacement DVD rom or I had a bad solder job? I can post pictures if needed. Thanks!!

I honestly have no idea...If you're able, I'd try testing each individual component to see if there is another issue that's causing it. Or sell it on Ebay for parts and pick up a new one. Sorry I don't have a better reply for you!

Like jstep said, I'm not sure either. You may want to search online for some local gaming stores that do repairs. I know we have a few within a 20m drive that offer repair services as well as sell classic systems and games,

im going to re solder the connections.. if that doesnt work im returning the dvd rom to the seller on amazon for another.

Oh no, the "toruble" bug, a terrible "noseum" type problem that sneaks up on you when you aren't looking.

Just kidding, honestly it sounds like you might have left a thumbprint on the lense or it was dirty to begin with. The drive unit itself it only as good as the signal it is able to read through the lense, have you tried cleaning it yet?

check to make sure the rubber bands under the tray are in place. Push the eye piece back in place if thats the problem. If you swapped out the tray. You may need to flash your console. But modding your xbox is not something you should do.
