Relic's Dawn of the War series remains the best video game adaptation of this universe, but Space Marine is a close second. The combat – for both single and multiplayer – pumps out barbaric excitement and continues to improve as the adventure unfolds.

Engaging combat carries Space Marine’s campaign and multiplayer a long way, although we can’t help but feel like a little more time — or maybe ambition — would have made this game a superstar. Still, it’s one heck of an entertaining fragfest, and the ideas here should nicely set up a bolder, hopefully more memorable sequel.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is on the shallow side, but it still serves up plenty of "waaagh!"
