So which gaming review sites are your favorites for deciding on whether or not a game is worth purchasing? Do you rely solely on them, or do you like to rent or otherwise try the game out before buying? Do you totally trust the content on these sites, knowing that the reviews are often bought?

Personally I used to use these sites a lot, but so many of the reviews are essentially bought by gaming companies it's hard to tell who is giving you an honest review, and who is doing it because they're getting their pockets loaded. An example was Dragon Age II, which although not totally terrible felt more like a DLC than a completely new game, and therefore imho didn't deserve all the positive reviews it got.

Thoughts? And, to return to the original question, which sites if any do you read and trust?

I don't really pay attention to game reviews too much. I'm with you-most seem totally biased. I did read the on here and I actually really liked the guys sarcasm throughout. I rented the game instead of buying it based on this review and I'm glad I did. I hope they put up more reviews like this. I can't post links yet, but here is the link: FireCylinder's Resident Evil 6 Review (with spoilers)

Game review sites just aren't good anymore.

If it's a shooter, for the most part, it will receive high reviews. I don't think it's because they're bought out, but more-so because if they give an obviously rehashed game a good review but the general public enjoys the game, then in the general public's eyes that review site would lose credibility even though they have valid complaints. So they really have no choice but to appeal to the masses nowadays.

Currently, I prefer IGN. I think that they provide the best reviews for console games. I also take a look at metacritic to get an overview of what game critics are saying about a certain video game. I also watch Smosh games on YouTube because they provide an entertaining take on video games.

And of course, there's Xbox forums which I frequent everyday.

I liked Gamespot before but I don't like the site layout now.

I don't go to any review sites as I rarely pay reviews any attention at all to begin with. I'd rather find out and form an opinion for myself :).

I don't really pay attention to reviews, but I do occasionally check out Metacritic to see what all of the reviews and ratings overall say about the game. I figure that with so many ratings/reviews in one place, that the average is most likely pretty accurate.

If and when I want to look up something for a walk through, I use Gamefaqs.
So I prefer those ratings.

Gamespot and Ign, but I don´t usually read reviews, I read forums like neogaf to know what other gamers think about a particular game and decide for myself if that game is for me or not.

I currently read Giant Bomb. They tend to offer well written and coherent reviews, without bias. It's probably the only review site which comes to mind that has kept its journalistic integrity all throughout its existence.
