So apparently this game comes out on April 23rd, 2013. Who else is excited as I am? I don't know about you guys, but I loved Dead Island and played through it multiple times. I enjoyed the creativity and beauty of the island. Co-op was fun as well and I assume it will be making a come back in Riptide. If you haven't already seen some game play footage, go to Youtube and search "Dead Island Riptide", and you'll see a few videos.

Tell me what you think!

I've yet to finish playing through the first game, but the release of Dead Island: Riptide motivates me to go back and finish my game. I kinda can't wait until it comes out!

I never finished the first game, but I did enjoy it. However, I doubt I'll even play the new one for a while after it comes out.
I'm kind of excited, but there are better.

I'm tentatively excited for the game. After playing the first one, which I thought was relatively disappointing because they hardly touched on the more emotional side that the trailers had advertised, I wasn't too keen on trying out a sequel. But if they can hone the combat to something less frustrating and make the game more emotional it could be a hit.

I just beat Dead Island and I dunno if I will get Riptide. I don't really know if Riptide is different enough to be worth it or if it's just more of the same. I finished my playthrough with Sam B at lv45 and I don't really feel like getting him to lv50 or playing as any of the other characters.

Why have I seen so many blades with a damage of about 1000 and the best I find for blunt weapons is around 500? If I hit a motherfucking zombie in the head with a fucking sledgehammer you would think it would explode but they seem to be extremely resilient zombies.

I also hated some quests. In fact, side-quests are the reason I do not want to play as other characters, as I would have to redo them to get the weapon mods. But anyway, quests generally aren't too bad but stuff like the ones with scientists in the jungle really pissed me off. They sent me to the same damn place like 5 times and the quests didn't pop up together. No, you had to pick up a quest for that place, then finish it and then you would get another quest telling you to go to the same damn place. Really, really annoying.

I also disliked how class mods work. They barely increase stats for weapons and the cool effects only activate on critical hit and I saw no good way to boost critical hit chance, at least not for Sam B's skills. There was one that gave a whooping +3% crit chance if you waste 3 skill points on it. Another one did give +6% crit chance if the zombie has low stamina, which is pretty much useless against anything other than Walkers and Infected. I can see why SOME effects would only work with crits, such as the Magic Wand electric mod which sends all zombies FLYING away (I love that) but it still bothers me.

I also really disliked the skill trees, they didn't seem to have enough interesting skills there and they were very similar among the different characters from what I've seen. Skills don't really give such a big boost as they should. I use up 3 skill points on one skill and I get a mere +6% damage with two handed weapons? Another gives me a +6% with modded weapons, not much either. There is one that did give me +9% damage with all blunt weapons and a big increase to the force of blunt weapons (I don't remember the number, though). So what, if I use a modded, two-handed, blunt weapon I get a total of... +21% damage? That's not much for 9 skill points, without counting the ones used up just to open up the bottom tiers. It's also sad that the skills of lower tiers take so long to get but aren't as good as the first tiers! Of course, this is all based on Sam B. so maybe just Sam got screwed over.

Welp, I wasn't gonna rant but I guess I ranted anyway so OK. These are my complaints for Dead Rising and I hope they have been addressed in Riptide. I will say, though, that I love sending zombies flying with Sam B's fury attack. It's great too when my blunt weapons make them fly away, but that doesn't happen as much as it should! So anyway, looking forward to Riptide and hoping it has nice changes. It will be kinda worth it when it hits bargain bin at very least, though! Just to see how the story continues after the events of Dead Island.

Hah, thanks for reminding me about Dead Island! I should probably install it again and play it sometime too. Never finished it, but now that you've reminded me about it I'm most likely to finish it now!

Ouch I was looking forward to this game I know its all down to personal tastes etc, but it looks like its getting a hard time from the critics.
Metacritic: 63
Gamespot 4.0
IGN:7.2
Has anyone here played it yet and can offer an honest user review?

Well, I haven't played it yet but yeah... it sounds like it's just more of the same... and I was sick of Dead Island way before it was even over. I will ignore this until they're selling it for dirt cheap on Steam or something, shouldn't take too long.
