There's already been rumor Sony is planning to boost their PS4 by adding the once-stated impossibility of emulation to let gamers play PS1 and PS2. This is different from PS Now since it doesn't involve streaming. So... do you guys think it's still possible the Xbox One can do emulation? Is it still possible up to this point? I've also heard news that Xbox 360 emulation is about to be enabled for Steam Machines thanks to Xbox 360 Xeneria.

Hard to really tell since it's still a rumor even on the PS4 side. Personally, I doubt that it can be done because it's not something that was planned. I don't think the PS4 rumor is going to happen either because it's out of their business model to promote the Playstation Now. If Playstation really do it then I believe Microsoft can too if they want to.

If Sony could do it, I'd imagine Microsoft could do it as well. It'd take much longer since Sony has been working on it prior to this announcement, and Microsoft has just began researching on how to get something like this done.

I don't see why not. You put a 360 emulator running in a virtual machine and I don't see a technical reason why it can't work. It all comes down to time and resources, plus don't forget the 360 is still selling consoles too.

I think for 360 games it would be very hard, but for Xbox ( I hate that you can't call it xbox 1 anymore!)... Sure, why not? The trouble is, there is only a handful of games that I would like to play from the original Xbox.

I guess it's really hard to say if it will be possible since they had been quite strict on the game development on this console. I guess the possibilities of having an emulation would be really really slim, like about 5%.

It might work with future Xbox One models. There's a chance that it can happen but it may take a while before it happens. Just gotta wait and see.

Agree. It might happen but I doubt it'll happen this year or next year. Microsoft is more focused on making new games so they're not focused on getting backwards compatibility back on the map.

Also backwards compatibility opens up a new can of worms for MS. It happened with the 360. People complained often about which games were going to be added to their BC list. Eventually MS threw in the towel and stopped the project. Personally, I'm ok having both my 360 and One next to one another. I simply switch the signal on my TV from one to the other.
