Interested in opinions from fellow members here. I have admittedly been hesitant to move over to purchasing all of my new games via download, where you have no physical box or disc. I don't have a real good reason really.....it is much more convenient, saves wear & tear on the disc drive, no waiting in lines or using gas to/from the store, etc. One of my main gripes is that if it is a digital download, I guess I expect their to be SOME kind of price break passed on to me for the manufacturer not having to press a disc, package it, ship it etc. If the DL's are cheaper I must have totally missed it. Am I alone in this expectation? It just seems fair if the game company can get away without a physical package and disc, some of that savings should be passed on to the consumer. Thoughts/opinions??

Thanks!!

I agree the digital downloads should be cheaper. It seems as though the opposite is taking place. All of the discounts seem to be on the physical disks. I have wondered if there have been sales problems with physical disks as more of us opt for the convenience of digital downloads. Why not offer discounts on the digital downloads to encourage people to give up on the disks and we can move away from disks completely? If it was $10-$15 cheaper for the downloads no one would care if you could resell the disk or not?

Instead of getting cheaper, Microsoft actually raised the prices of digital downloads. I personally do not prefer to buy digital games mainly because of my limited connection speed. Downloading over 20GB of data seems really large and a waste of resources. I also can't do anything else while downloading because I don't want to stretch the bandwidth and increase download time.

I was hesitant as well, but I've gotten used to the steam cloud downloading system and it's really quite convenient. I understand your concerns and I still have them to this day, but it is really wonderfully convenient to be able to access your games so easily.

I've been more download than physical buying these days, all thanks to Steam. It has a lot to do with convenience, pricing and more convenience. I mean, yeah, it does irk me when games I buy are big in size but once you get it, you'll feel good knowing you can quit a game and then play another game in just seconds. But yeah, I do miss some of the physical buying because it's nice to have in a collection. Let's put it this way: I'm 80% digital, 20% physical. It's up to you really, if you like all digital. Maybe, if I could make a suggestion, it should be a mix of digital and physical if you still have the desires for a physical collection.

I've been all download for quite a while and I can honestly say that in time, you'll see the price break. Sales often come along every month and actually, it'll save you a lot of time. Especially now with new games like The Wolf Among Us being digital-only, it's already a trend. Anyway, it's up to you. But yeah, one thing to be concerned of is the digital price hiking, which happened recently in UK. Hasn't happened in other territories so far.

I have only bought digital, if no disc version is available as I have no choice.

I agree that digital should at least be $10 cheaper as there is no box, disc or other packaging.

There are already some used games online for almost $20 cheaper than digital.

I may never buy another disk even if the disks are the same price or cheaper. It's way too convenient to switch between games on the fly without having to swap out a disk. Not to mention skipping the trip to the store in the first place. Ya'll do whatcha want.

Same here since it's more convenient to just download the copy instead of falling in line at a store just to buy it. It's more costly in my case since I live far from the stores.

I would still buy discs if digital prices got cheaper. I collect when it comes to home consoles. Handhelds are what I typically go digital with since I take my portable with me and having multiple cartridges and discs can be a bother when out and about. However, sitting at home, there's very little effort in opening a case, hitting the eject button, and swapping out discs.

I would go digital if the prices were significantly less, but like Outrun I like to collect games and have a bookcase of them to look at. Having a bunch of digital games (while it saves space) doesn't come close. I mean I wouldn't go boasting about my collection and having to turn on the X1 or PS4 and just thumb through what MetalSwift called text and cover art..

If you get game cards from online sites (I have used cdkeys a few times in the past) you can get the value of the card for a lot cheaper than it's meant to be. Paid £41 for a £50 card the other week, so your download purchases can work out being around the same price if not a bit cheaper than the physical counterpart

I get digital games for handheld only. I might get older games on PS3 and 360 via digital download if there's particularly cheap. Like the $9.99-$14.99 games. If it was actual retail price it would have to be a game I know I'm going to keep like Mario, Metroid, or Mega Man. Something along those lines.

I've been warming up to digital download. It's convenient...although the way Outrun puts it makes it seems like I hit a new plateau of lazy.

My only problem with digital downloading is that its usually more expensive and you can't resell the game if for whatever reason you don't like it. I will always choose physical over digital for full games. Indie games are fine the way they are though,

I've always believed that the game price never had anything to do with the manufacturing of physical discs but how much the game itself cost. That's why you see a price break on physical discs and never on digital downloads. I'd like to see digital downloads be cheaper on release but that will never happen.
