Hey all, not sure if this was covered before. I couldn't find it when searching, but my question is in regards to the charging kit for the xbone controller. Well, as many of you, I bought the console since launch and noticed that the regular batteries on the controller just drains so quickly. I was thinking of buying a charging kit for $25, but don't feel like spending $25 when you have stuff laying around in a drawer. I realized that the charging wire is the same connection for an android phone (micro usb). Instead of buying the kit, I just used an extra micro usb wire (android user) along with an extension usb wire to make it long enough (approx. 9ft). It actually works perfectly as plugged in controller without spending anything, but what if I place rechargable batteries in the controller? Will it charge? Has anyone ever used a micro usb phone cord with re chargable batteries instead of purchasing the microsoft charging kit? If so, please let me know so I can bum a couple of re charge batteries from a buddy of mine because i'm cheap, lol.

with the charging kit you get a battery pack as well. its a sealed unit. not individual batteries.

the batteries are in a hard case as well.

the cord may be the same but how long is it? usually phone chargers are a few feet max. the one in the charging kit is roughly 5 feet. i dont use my controller wirlessly. i play it with it plugged in.

yeah but the voltage resistance is difference, your outlet for the average household puts out 120 volts and the chargers which are designed specifically for a devices battery cuts it down to an acceptable voltage to safely charge your device, different devices different batteries, different batteries different voltage, you might be shortening the life of your batter...

Thanks for the link White 4nd N3rdy (also love your L33t screen name btw!) I have been looking for some more info on getting a sweet charging station in my room. I am always running out of juice and have so many things to charge.

Thanks for the replies... so, it's better not to charge the re chargeable batteries from the controller and just get the microsoft re chargeable kit? If so, then that stinks!

It would be very un wise to try to charge rechargebles in this method. U could potentially explode your batteries from overcharging them as well u have no idea as to what voltage specs are required for charging as the duration of the charge.

MSFT PNC kits have built in voltage regulators, cut off overcharging sensors and led indicators to when they are fully charged.

U will be better off buying rechargible batteries with a charge kit. I'd only but the PNC kits if your a competitive gammer and like having hard line connection.
