Former Xbox multimedia executive Blair Westlake has resigned from Microsoft following what he describes as a change of direction in the company, Variety reports.

"It has become clear to me that the organization is moving in a direction that does not fit either my expertise or my skill sets," said Westlake in a statement, following 10 years with the company.

"Over the last few months Microsoft has been undergoing a large-scale reorganization. During that period, I have had the privilege of working with numerous talented and professional people. While I will miss their company and our interaction, I truly believe that this move is in the best interest of all parties concerned. I want to thank my talented and committed team, as well as Yusuf Mehdi, Robbie Bach, Will Poole and Hank Vigil, all of whom had a significant and positive impact on me during my tenure at Microsoft."

Looks like not everyone is welcoming the change in direction with media Microsoft has been employing these last few months. How this will impact MSFT going forward is yet to be seen, but have no doubt it is a significant loss. It will be interesting to see who takes over the role.

Hmmm... Never good news after a major game system release.

Just shows that Microsoft's change in direction won't always please everybody. Whether that's good or bad depends on how it plans to realize the vision. Well, we'll have to wait it out and see what they can do after this.

There could be more departures while waiting for a new head of Microsoft. Then expect a couple of more releases and departures when someone new is picked.

Oh I see departures piling up in the coming month or so when the new head honcho is announce. Some people are just not going to be cool with a change in direction, really.

It's going to have impact anytime some big wigs leave a company but I believe it's only minimal. Majority of people don't really care who is jumping ship. Like me, I didn't know who the guy was until I read this article. Most I can see from this is bad PR for Microsoft looking at the reason behind the resignation.
