Xbox One Xbox One disc drive still necessary thanks to ‘bandwidth and game size’

i think the disk drive is a staple for quite a few years to come.. until they max out the size the disks can hold.. be it movies, games ect ect.

i just cant see an all digital non disk unit yet... to many variables and possibly to easy to loose all the titles you have linked to an account. the fear with all digital is you have 25g invested in movies, music, games, apps, ect ect... and a company goes under holding the serves and everything you have linked is gone. that will always be the underlining issue.

this is the same issue or gripe i have with streaming movies/tv... netflix, amazon, hulu, redbox ect ect..

we gain/loose titles almost quarterly.. u almost need 4 streaming apps to get a stable library.. i would much rather a 3rd part app that takes your available stream and puts them in a library. heck i am even ok with the ability to stream "new" titles or "rent" them for 1.99 or whatever like redbox does with the kiosk.

but on the bandwith stuff... allot of us take it for granted that we have dsl/t1/google connections. we are still a minority in the united states let alone the world. till a quick connection is readily avalaible a disk is almost a necessity. look at the articles of foreign countries taking 7 days to download xbox one games. without disks the xb1 becomes a very frustrating system. but on a side not this is where drm comes in.. you could have disk and have digital... but its something the united states consumer was not ready for.

I think it's still necessary. Sure, we're moving towards digital but still, I still got the love for the physical media. I can't abandon it just yet. It's still got usage in this generation. And yes, like what sc_shark, the streaming world has issues on licensing too. Look, Netflix and other sites are about to lose some of the great titles they had up for streaming. Ah well... anyway, disc drive is still usable.

Yup, I agree with thedoodseven. The disc drive is still necessary. It's not just for the sake of nostalgia or whatever. It's just, you still need it one way or another. sc_shark also makes good points of why it's still essential. Until issues of the digital move can be fixed, the disc drive is still needed.

Forgot to put my input: yes, it's still necessary. As much as I'd like a digital-only console, I still see the use for the disc drive. I mean, what if the digital side gets disabled? With the physical side, you still have it. So yes, disc drive still has a place.

I think we will always have a disc drive. For games like people have said not everyone has fast internet and second to play
DVD's, CD's and Blu-Rays.

I know some like to download everything, but I have a couple hundred CD's, DVD's and BluRays and even now prefer to
buy something over download. Also a lot of times the quality of things on discs is better.

True. I still love the disc drive too. Besides, what if the digital side of things went down, like say they all went offline? With discs, you can just pop it in and boom! You have it right there. Still like that.
