Xbox One Xbox One Headset

So is anyone else having real problems with the XB1 Headset?
The 360 headset lasted me the whole time since I bought my 360 till I bought XB1 (over 4 years). But with these Xbox One headsets, I am just broke my second one and am contemplating if I should keep with the Kinect mic, or buy a new one (probably will for Destiny). I don't treat them badly, they don't move except from my desk to my head about once a day.
Is it just me, or are these new mics garbage?

Seems the only solution at the moment is to do a hard reset, ie press the power button on console until it powers off. Hopefully they will sort out the mic monitoring issue in a future update as well.
