Microsoft has finally confirmed the launch date for the much anticipated Xbox One as November 22nd, 2013. This is, of course, a week after the PS4.

Do you feel that's an advantage or disadvantage? After all, I think this is the first console generation launching this close together. Personally, I don't think TOO many people will have the funds for both systems on day one, so if your mind's made up already, it probably won't change anything.

I think the fact they are launching in parts of Europe simultaneous was a smart move. It will however give PS4 a slight advantage at launch, but nothing to worry about.
Fun Fact: XBOX 360 also launched on Nov. 22nd

Not sure about that. They may be launching more but according to this..not good -

“The problem with pre-orders, which is a good problem to have, is that they’re very, very high. Higher than we’ve ever seen in 20 years in this business,” Gara said, speaking to OPM.

Consequentially, Sony has “a situation to manage”.

“As an ex-retailer myself I understand this at least as well as anyone else: we need to help retailers manage the expectations of their customers and not let them down. And that is why we advise them that, from August 5, they should not guarantee anyone they will get their unit on day one.”

Sony wants to make sure no retailer promises what they cannot deliver, and now that is has locked down the console’s launch date, will begin working out precisely how many units each retailer will have.

“We are going to be looking at a sell-out situation and chasing demand, it’s a problem, it’s kind of a good problem to have, but it is a problem and we’re trying to manage that as responsibly as we possibly can,” he concluded.

The PS4 has already attracted over 1 million pre-orders, with demand outpacing that exhibited for the PS2 and PS3. The question of demand outstripping supply is a loaded one, as Sony was not able to supply sufficient PS3 consoles at launch, leading to delays in Europe.

SCE America boss Jack Tretton has exhibited cautious optimism about the PS4′s future, but said the lower price point isn’t enough; Sony has to deliver on its launch promises.

It will be like the 360 launch I bet, all ove rthe place andf a cluster.

Yea, but the advantage is in the marketing. Sold out systems make people believe that's the one they want. If the PS4 is sold out but the XB1 readily available, the casual gamer may think well its sold out cuz its better....that the one I want. Either way I will have my XB1 day one and I'm luvin it!

That is true, but once they look at the games that are NOT avaliable lol they may turn heads. And since Infamous is not a luanch, even more to the X1. They would go to buy that PS4 and look at the small shelf and then look tot he right and go..wow....lol

True. I still do think 3rd party games will play a big part at launch. Since even if your console of choice doesn't have great launch exclusives it does have plenty of 3rd party support. You can still pick up your console of choice and a few great games.

Oh of course you can, but when you have a 400 dollar console in hand and see lets say 15 games including 3rd party titles then see 30 games including 3rd party, you start to get that othe rthough lol. I was using those numbers an an example also lol

Actually number wise they're about dead even at abotu 23 and 24...give or take lol

Yes, because I know plenty of people buying a PS4 just for those indies. I have some coworkers not even planning on buying games, just PS+ and playing the indies off of that. If we do only exclusives:

PS4

DC Universe Online (Sony Online Entertainment)
DriveClub (Evolution Studios)
Killzone: Shadow Fall (Guerrilla Games)
Knack (SCE Japan Studio)
Warframe (Digital Extremes)

XB1

Dead Rising 3 (Capcom)
Forza Motorsport 5 (Turn 10)
LocoCycle (Twisted Pixel)
Killer Instinct (Double Helix)
Ryse: Son of Rome (Crytek)

Cross Platform

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (Ubisoft)
Battlefield 4 (DICE)
Call of Duty: Ghosts (Infinity Ward)
FIFA 14 (EA Sports)
Just Dance 2014 (Ubisoft)
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (TT Games)
Madden NFL 25 (EA Sports)
NBA 2K14 (Visual Concepts)
NBA Live 14 (EA Sports)
Skylanders: Swap Force (Vicarious Visions)
Watch Dogs (Ubisoft Montreal)

Oh I was saying from a casual gamer standpoint. When your in store, no one will be looking at indie games since there isnt nothing to see unless your really into the know. Indie games wont be the major selling point at launch. Its what you can see and hold. So take away those 15 or so indie games and thats not a good thing. That shelf will not look good lol

Well for me if someone is going to buy 2 games that have been out for awhile now, then that is 400 dollars...well...spent i guess lol. But that leaves them with 2 brand new games, that people will see on shelf.

Well, I'm happy about the date as it gives me more time to scrape up the money. I didn't get to pre-order. :( But, I am baffled by the date, other than the new fun fact about the 360. It just seems so late when considering Call of Duty. It's one of the biggest games of the market!

I am befuddled.

But, finally a date. I am pleased.

Oh and you forgot Fighter Within for the KiNECT that is retail also. Im sure thats an X1 exclusive though

Hah, looks like most of the rumours were in fact just that...rumours.

Great to see Microsoft finally release the release date. 22nd is as good a choice as any. And I don't think they would have any disadvantage launching the console 1 week later. I'm pretty sure most people can wait a week if they truly want the console.
