Microsoft has revealed its plans for Xbox One's reputation system, alongside detailing how those who commit repeat infractions will be penalised.

A post on Xbox Wire explains that while players will only be warned at first about bad behaviour including griefing or foul language, this will quickly escalate if they don't change.

i think if the game has strong language ect ect you should be allowedto use language.. its like saying we cn say it but you cant.. it will be interesting to see how it works and see how lobby's push it..

Since Microsoft’s latest console launched, the company has been monitoring players on its Xbox Live online service for disruptive and abusive behavior. Based on this, an algorithm assigns them a reputation score based on their interactions with the community. They are then sorted into three categories: “Green = Good,” “Yellow = Needs Work,” and “Red = Avoid Me.”

The majority of Live members will remain in the “Good” category. Those who have been continually disruptive in online play and communications, however, will likely see their reputation score drop. They will also receive notifications explaining why they’ve been docked and how their behavior negatively affects other members of the community.

Microsoft program manager Michael Dunn wrote on Xbox.com today that the algorithm behind the reputation scores is complex. At its core, it tracks when Live members are reported by their peers for abusive behavior or cheating. But it’s necessarily more complicated than that, in order to protect innocent users from fraudulent reports.

“The algorithm is sophisticated and won’t penalize you for a few bad reports,” wrote Dunn on Xbox.com last July.

i just dont like the sound of it.. what are they going to use voice recognition software.. what about people like me who dont have kinect and only use the headset to chatt(rarely).. what if a lobby dosnt like my gamerscore or if i do bad in a game they start hitting me with negative rep... why should i be punished for poor play when the rep seems like its a very broad brush stroke.

I agree. I don't like this idea at all. What if for some unknown reason I'm tagged as a Red category. This will be so unfair. After buying this whole thing they plan on restricting the owners of the console.

Eh? Okay, I was okay with MSFT doing their best to fish out those bad gamers or whatnot when they announced their plans last year but this one is getting more ridiculous. Not cool at all.

Ugh... this system is just getting annoying already. MSFT finally gives us a definition and yet, it still feels vague. It doesn't answer everything.

I agree. This is not a good move Microsoft. They better change this right away.

This will probably go down the drain if microsoft listens to what the gamers think about.

its not a bad move its really how they control it. or how players/groups try and exploit it..

i like the idea of the system.. id rather be lobby'ed with people who have a decent play score/play reasonable.. forza5 is ap erfect example.. where rammers, and guys who run backwards and purposly wreck players could be sent together to have fun.. and players or play normal would be grouped together.

As long as they can control it well. If it does separate them cheaters, then good. If it unfairly separates the good guys, then bad.

I can see where this system has potential but I still don't understand how they can discern truly bad players from people who are unfairly being targeted by bad players. In other words, when a player is reported for bad behavior by another player, how do you know if the report is true/untrue, fair/unfair?

Maybe their so called Microsoft can see you rumor might do the trick.

I see Microsoft changing this soon-ish. They have to have learned from the backlash of the Xbox One's original plans. The lessons were "If it has to be explained multiple times because people are getting vocal about it, don't do it next time" and "If you have to over explain how something will work, scrap it and do it over on the back of the paper." This is one of those things that either needs to be scrapped or taken back to the drawing board.

You know what? When I first heard of this rep system I actually thought what you explained would be what they were doing with it. Reasonable players play together, griefers and the like go to play against each other on...prison island or whatever.

This isn't going to end well for Microsoft if they don't change it to something tolerable. It could easily blow up and might even end up being pushed back to later in the year.
