All right, so I'm curious but: anyone here have the issues of overheating? I've heard before in the previous gen (PS3/360/Wii) about overheating. I was supposed to get a 360 before but some of my friends discouraged me because of overheating. One of them lost their console due to overheating. So will the Xbox One overheat like its predecessor or not? Let me hear your thoughts on this.

I have not heard of any cases yet or complaints, but I think Microsoft will not make the same mistake this time around. It cost them too much the first time and from what I hear, the case is basically one big fan for cooling and has a great cooling system to be able to handle any heat issues. Its one of the reasons it is so "big" as they say.... I would rather it look big and be cool than slim and overheat all the time....

All right, thank you. I see, so no wonder it's one big box. I asked 'cuz where I live, it's quite a hot and humid location. I use the aircon all the time but there are days when I have to keep it off, and seeing as how I play for hours, I was just concerned that the console might heat it up especially in a hot place like mine. Well, glad to know it's got a nice cooling system.

I think bearing in mind that the PS Slim seemed to hav emore complaints of overheating than the original PS, and looking at the size of the Xbox One, I can't see this being a big issue overall. I could be wrong, but I think Microsoft would have payed a bit more attention to possible overheating issues more this time around.

All right, thanks again for your replies. This should keep me at ease when I decide to buy the Xbox One. I'm really looking forward to getting this console, so I just want to be 100% sure it doesn't overheat on me, especially in my location. I don't want to hear the next-gen being a victim of the overheating.

honestly my system has barley been off since thursday night.. no over heating and i dont have it propped up(a spacer under it) the bottom is a hard shell with no ventilation. the top is the source of air movement.
i can say it may get a little warm but nothing crazy. compared to the 360 this thing is a wiper at best..

Wow, that sounds assuring then. Microsoft really got it right this time with the design. At least I can sleep at ease, knowing the Xbox One can stay on for a good time in case. This should be good enough for me. Thanks for your reply SC_Shark.

my xbox has honestly been on at least 32 hours straight.

i hve played ac4 since 12(lunch time) till 5am sunday. and now it is streaming avengers on netflix.
i had played forza for roughly 4+ hours on friday along with a few straight hours of bf4.
not to mention netflix,amazon prime.

it has yet to get "hot" or have i herd the fan kick on to the point it was trying to cool anything down drastically. if you put your hand on the upper right part(slotted) you can feel how warm it gets.. but i did lift my xbox up to see if it had any cooling panels on the bottom for intake or what not and it does it. (i had always kept my 360 about an inch off the dresser) it dosn't seem the xb1 needs this.. it was designed to lay flat...

now ifyou keep it in a tight place with little/no air traving over it or able to escape than maybe an issue..

Wow. Awesome reply. Don't worry, the room I live in has plenty of space to keep ventilation. But seriously, 32 hours of straight-up playing really attests the great design of the Xbox One. I got to say, Microsoft has really outdone themselves. All right, you've convinced me there's not much of an issue on the overheating. Again, my room has plenty of space to keep ventilation.

Mine has not been off since I installed it Friday afternoon and still fine.

Supposedly, they increased the cooling efficiency this time, with almost half of the console having a gigantic grate on it which acts essentially as a heatsink. I wouldn't want Microsoft repeating the same "dead on arrival" thing they pulled with Xboxes, they've probably learned from their mistakes since then.

Ours isn't overheating but our Kinect died :( New one is on the way.

Whoa, how'd yours die?

And for marthyrocks, I've talked to some of my friends with Xbox Ones. Don't worry: no overheating issues so far. Some of them like SC_SHARK here kept theirs own for almost 20-30 hours. I'm amazed. Microsoft has really outdone themselves with their design.

min was on all day again... streamed netflix.. got on around 6:30 to play ac4 did bf4 now back to netflix.

Tests are showing XB1 is running cooler than the PS4 actually except when gaming/multitasking it gets higher than PS4 but still its pretty darn cool....one thing is the hottest component of our system is the Kinect! Kotaku used a thermal and showed it at 108* while our console externally was about 86*

Hmmm... I guess I don't have to worry about the overheating then. I'm just surprised by some of the posters here like sc_shark. I've read your stuff dood, and by golly, you've had that console of yours on the whole day? Yowza. My dad wouldn't let me have my PS3 on the whole day. PC is fine, but PS3 no. But good to know overheating isn't an issue here.

Mine has still not been turned off since day one and been fine.

It's nice to hear that overheating seems to be a thing of the past. I'm sure there will be some other issue though. That is just the nature of console launches these days.

MS actually fixed the overheating in the 360 years ago. The 360s had problems in the first year or so, but the later models never had any heat issues.

My X1 is quiet and completely cool even after hours of play. No worries on heat issues.

So far, no overheating. Now, I haven't had all the time I'd like with my new system, but it is fine so far.
