Well, to anybody who lives in China as a gamer, open your eyes: China temporarily lifts the ban on the consoles!---- temporarily

China temporarily lifts ban on consoles

You know, I'm just surprised this ban has been on for almost 14 years... 14 years! Well Chinese forum gamers, pop a soda bottle or something, 'cuz soon, you'll be joining the world playing consoles. Oh yeah! :o

Well, Chinese gamers should definitely be happy now! They can have a chance at playing PS4, Xbox One and Wii U! But seriously though, 14 years?! That's a very long time to wait to finally have a chance to play games like Halo. Well, better later than ever I guess.

Link doesn't work, that's crazy though so they never even got to experience the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation? There are some weird things going on in terms of censorship in China, I remember reading in World of Warcraft they've only managed to release half of the expansions that have been developed due to some reason.

Link worked for me.

Wow, and I was recently part of a discussion of them banning a DLC game that questioned the authority of the Chinese government.

It’s fairly ironic that a region that would be the epitome of outsourced labor banning something for so long until the transient ban lift that other countries could make a large profit from if there was a more consistent stream of games sold there. Kind of an interesting paradox on their end, and I wonder how the government would create their own scale and filter on what’s acceptable or not.

Hey, at least it’s better than nothing, though depending on how efficient the filtering the government does on what games are acceptable, it might drag out for a few months or a few years though.

Awww man! You're right. They never got to experience the PS3/360/Wii generation. Heck, they never even got to experience the PS2/Xbox/Cube man! Man, they missed out on two generations. Well, at the very least, they can get a headstart now with the new generation. Well, I'll just talk PS4/Wii U/ Xbox One with some of the Chinese gamers then since that's what they'll be buying for now. BUT if Sony and others can start selling the older consoles, well, good! And orz-dood, link worked for me.

Man, that saddens me :( It's hard to think they missed out on that generation and the one before it. But at least with the console ban out, they can enjoy the new one. Hopefully the companies can start selling the older consoles too. I'd be happy to know if someone in China gets to play something like Gears of War or even Mass Effect. ;-D

I'm happy for Chinese gamers, though the ban wasn't that enforced you just couldn't buy the consoles in China but dedicated gamers got their hands on the systems anyway. I think Nintendo and Sony (despite that weird thing that's going on right now between Japan and China) will do very well because they cater to the kind of games that Chinese players like to play. The Xbox One is in a lot of trouble because like Japan I don't know if Microsoft is capable of figuring out how to market to Asian gamers. Whether out of loyalty or just because it's too Western Japan still hasn't embraced Microsoft and I don't know if China will either.

Yeah, that's one thing Microsoft will have to work on. In Asia, it's all Sony and Nintendo. They know how but Microsoft... even in my country, people are more into the PlayStation products.

At least China can finally enjoy the next-gen. Now, the next thing is the games. Which can go and which can't go? We already know Battlefield 4 isn't getting in so we'll have to see what next-gen game can go in for our friends in China to enjoy.

Yeah, wondering games can go through the clearing. I hope they can't let Chinese gamers enjoy the games we all enjoy. I mean, if they ban Dead Rising 3, that would suck right? Even games like Resogun and Don't Starve on PS4, they can't ban those.

I'm kind of interested in how long is temporary.

Microsoft is going to have to go Sony and Nintendo's "market neutral" route to actually dent Asia. Not everyone the world over is keen on American football, fantasy football, and Mountain Dew.

Well, lucky Chinese gamers. Now they can enjoy the perks of waiting this long to play the console games they love. They now have a wide variety of games that they can choose from. I hope it microsoft does go global full time for Xbox One.

Doesn't really matter. Piracy is so rampant in China, the only game model that can succeed is the freemium model.

And moreover, anyone who wanted a console could easily get one from the huge black market.

Microsoft hobbles hard on this. I'm loving my Xbox One, but it does come off as a western-centric console. I hope they actually take a global approach this time with Xbox One and not just leave it up to users to adapt to it or drop it.

I think that if the gaming market proves to be great for China despite piracy the ban lift could be permanent.

Even though I don't live in China but I'm happy for the gamers in China. Now they get to enjoy games like the rest of the world without resorting to illegal means to get a console. China opening up might be the tide turner for Microsoft since China isn't very fond of products made by Japan.

What sort of barbaric country deprives their citizens from engaging in gaming? It's ironic how I've seen consoles with 'made in China' engraved upon them.

So true, they have a lot of gadgets, bags, clothes and even shoes that have been pirated. I remember when I was in China last year I saw an apple computer but the logo was an apple with a worm on it. Sadly most of the gadgets in that country is exported to other countries that sell pirated stuff.

But who knows? Remember that Apple purchased a major company there in China. This would mean that Apple has the capability to sell their major products without being taken out by the pirates. So Sony and Nintendo may try somehting like that too. We'll see.
