The Xbox One home screen is much improved over the Xbox 360. In fact, I now understand what it means when people say that Microsoft is moving away from a gaming system and moving in to a full entertainment system. The home screen looks just like my Windows 8 home screen. Is Windows 8 installed on the Xbox? Is it a different Windows 8 than what we see on the PC?

It's not really Windows 8, from what I've read and seen so far. It's just using the Metro UI of the Windows 8 but in a way that it caters to the Xbox One's new UI. After all, Microsoft makes both Windows 8 and Xbox One, so they had the freedom to make use of the Windows 8 UI if they wanted to.

I'm seeing a modified Windows 8 but catered for the Xbox One. It has features that isn't Windows 8. Like what dood says, Microsoft made Windows 8 so if they wanted to make it Windows 8-like, let 'em. They chose to do it.

Given that Windows 8 was designed with mobile phones in mind, it makes sense ot modify it slightly and use it for the xbox dashboard.

It comes off as very Windows 8-like in appearance. I find it easy to use though a few had problems getting the hang of it at first.

I see it as a way to bring users into the Windows 8 fold since it was shown that a lot of people are sticking with Windows XP and Windows 7 Steam players are taking to Windows 8 over XP...which is no small feat since XP didn't mess around.

I just like Windows 7 and have no real intention of upgrading to Windows 8 for the moment but yeah it's pretty obvious that the UI on the Xbox One is based on Windows 8, maybe to get more people interested. The thing is after the debacle that was Vista, it's hard to part with Windows 7 which has been working pretty well for the most part.

I don't think the One is running a Windows 8 OS but it has been tailored to work similarly so that Windows 8 users will have an easy time navigating the One, and vice-versa.

I agree, Xbox One is just borrowing the metro UI of windows 8. Well the functionality is different from windows 8 and I can say it's much better than windows 8.

I like the metro UI, just don't care for Windows 8 much...it's not bad or anything, but I'm just now embracing Windows 7. At least it works differently from 8.

Windows 8 is not the Operating system present on the Xbox one, though Microsoft is attempting to make all of their products glow with a uniform shine. Beyond that, it really is just its own operating system.

Yeah, the Xbox One isn't running Windows 8 at all. Instead what their doing is putting Windows 8 like features in the One's UI so that consumers who have Windows 8 will feel comfortable and users who don't might consider getting Windows 8. It's a win win for Microsoft.

I have to admit the UI is pretty damn nice. It won't reel me into Windows 8 for my PC, but I actually like the look of the UI.

You'd rather have a DOS non-UI where you have type in roots and stuff with the Xbox keyboard...and never get to play your game. You know this is true, Swift lol

Not quite Windows 8 but both share similar attributes. I'm still moreso partial towards the 360 dashboard and navigation but it is OK.

Yes, they do share similarities, well what can we expect. The new OS is windows 8 so they had to pattern the same style on the existing console. It's possible that in the near future they will have windows 9 and Xbox will have the same layout.

The 360 dashboard was just straightforward which I prefer. It's not the prettiest thing after you see Metro, but whatever. The Metro UI isn't complex, but 360's just said "Bells and whistles? For the dashboard? Get that **** outta here."

I'm liking the Xbox One UI. It just seems...cleaner, I suppose. Then again I like Windows 8 and Metro.

I'm not a fan of Windows 8, but I guess the UI of Xbox One isn't that bad. I mean I don't have any issues using it since we have voice commands that are available. It would probably be an issue for me if the voice commands were disabled.

I don't hate Windows 8, I'm far more comfortable with keeping Windows 7 but that doesn't mean that I'm fan of the Xbox One UI. I've gotten used to it but I don't like it all that much personally. However, I don't consider it to be that big of a deal for me right now. The Xbox One may vaguely resemble Windows 8 but not enough to turn people off.

Like has been said before its not actually W8 but a very close rendition if it.
