I've been keeping a reletaviley open mind on which console is better but today my facebook feed has blown up with people complaining about the PS4, here are just some examples:
"Super excited to plug in my brand spanking new PS4 and what happens? It's doesn't even switch on"
"PS4 is a flop guys just... dont'"
"PS4 for sale if anyone wants it..."

This is really surprising to me, I wasn't planning on getting one right away but I was also hedging my bets on Sony to have the *slightly* better console this generation- Is my social circle just over-reacting or is this a world wide problem?

Nah, i don't think it's a worldwide problem. Just a coincidence. PS4 and Xbox are both outstanding consoles, and taking into account the years of planning, engineering and software programming, I think it's impossible to release a fail console today. Do you know what were the issues which provoked such comments?

I think its just talk and more if it as the PS4 was just released. I was on YT yesterday and all the feeds had a lot more PS4
talk than usual.

Watch next weekend once released all the talk about the Xbox One, some will say its no good, some will have problems, etc...

Wait until after the end of the year, when both have been out a while for the real verdict.

I dont take that as just mere coincidence. PS4 is off to a poor start, but fanboi's will support their brand, just like X1 will have fanboi's. We will see how outstanding the X1 is this week coming. Hope for the best, expect the worst.

It's really hard to call either system a flop or a success at this point in time. To be honest I don't think we'll have a good scope of the quality of the consoles for at least another year or so. Basically we need to see how support does for the system, how post launch gaming catalogs expand, and how the technology holds up over time. Just look at the RRoD, for example. That was not a problem initially noticed at launch and it started becoming more and more prevalent.

So, honestly, let's wait awhile before turning on our fanboyism. Just enjoy this golden age of console gaming and let other people worry about the critiques. I know that is hard to do because most of us here are huge Xbox fans. If I had to say which system I'd suggest to a friend, however, I would still go Xbox. The XB1 has the perfect intersection of casual gaming and hardcore gaming. The PS4 seems more hardcore/dedicated to single player experiences. That's sort of how it has always been, outside of a few exceptions.

To call something a flop means it didn't sell at the levels expected, and actually sold at much lowers levels.

So i agree with this poster in thats its too early to call it a flop or not a flop. Was the launch not as smooth as they wanted. That's also not up to us to decide just yet. New consoles will have issues. Have there been more issues than sony expected? Less? Who knows.

Its a console at launch, growing pains are expected.

I'm definitely not a Sony fan, however, I don't see how the PS4 is a flop just because it had issues with faulty systems. I hate to say, but I'm sure MS will have similar issues when the XB1 hits this Friday.

I just hope we are not in store for this on Friday or even all launch weekend.

I def wouldnt call the ps4 a flop. And thats coming from a microsoft guy. They sold a million units in 24 hrs. Now its just a matter of can the ps4 do all the tricks the xbox can and we will find out tbis weekend. Unfortunately imo the wii u is the serious flop. They are losing third party support, they rely too heavily on the same franchises from when i was a kid and they tarket the kids who have to ask their parents to buy he system instead of a person 20+ who has their own credit card

Considering the wii sold by the truckload and when it came out you couldnt even buy one for almost a year. Now look at hem, most people dont even know what a wii u is. I would be worried

I believe for various reasons Sony will sell more boxes than MS for the first year or so... However for more reasons that just raw power I believe the XB1 will start to outsell the PS4 consistently from some point thereafter. The temp blip that Sony are having with 'BLOD' will quickly be resolved & those gamers whom have a faulty box will receive replacements & a sweetener like a game or online gaming token. I wish both systems success as that would be best for everyone as relating to retail pricing.

Only read the first few replies. The PS4 isn't a "Flop" compared to the Xbox ONE solely because the XB1 still hasn't been released. Just like with the original Playstation 3, and the original 360, both consoles had TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE first generation problems. I'm more then willing to bet that the Xbone is going to have it's fair share of upcomings and problems, just like the PS4. To be fair though, rumors are that a lot of the PS4's were actually sabotaged by certain factories that were making them due to low wages and unsafe working conditions. Sort of a way of protesting until they get their demands met.

So, while I've yet to see any of my friends experience any problems with their own, that doesn't mean it doesn't have them. Vice Versa as well, just because quite a few are having problems, doesn't mean some are working flawlessly for others. I remember when I picked up the original 360, I was spared from all the plagues, RROD, and other problems the 360 had while mine worked for several years. Wasn't until a couple of years ago that it finally got the RROD and I went and bought another one. Hell, even the 250GB Slim is known to have several issues, yet I've experienced none. Just a bad pick of the litter.

And yes, it's going to happen with the XB1 as well. So, as others have said, can't really make a statement like until both consoles have been out for a good couple of months, or even after a full year.

Yea, i mentioned somewhere else that Microsoft AND Sony will have EXPECTED console issues at launch. it happens. If the issues have been more than expected its a problem, but still not a flop.

I totally agree. A non-working lot of game systems don't make the system a flop. If it doesn't sell and people decide to reject purchasing or supporting the system then it is a flop.

Too damn early to say if either console is good or not.

I think they both are terrible at launch, regardless. Nothing truly worthwhile to play on either console yet. Dunno what's the big fuzz with getting consoles right away when there's nothing to play on them.

Not sure if I agree with that statement. I'm sure, for you, there is nothing to play yet. However, most here in this forum would agree there are a lot of games we're dying to get our hands on. Forza, Dead Rising 3, Ryse, CoD, etc...
