Before Monday, André Weingarten figured he was out of luck. A devoted Xbox user from day one—he replaced two red-ringed 360s—Weingarten didn't have a preorder down for the newest console. Then, lo and behold, Target had them in stock online. And then, incredibly, Weingarten had an Xbox One on his doorstep four days later.

However, it sounds like this episode will end well. Weingarten had an amicable chat with Larry Hryb—"Major Nelson," the No. 1 community guy for Xbox Live—and was assured that the console ban is not permanent. Sometime before the Xbox One's Nov. 22 launch, Weingarten's console will go back online in good standing. Microsoft will also pull its copyright claim on Weingarten's YouTube video of the console's unboxing, which—along with a slew of Tweets—appeared to get him in so much trouble overnight.

Microsoft should just let the man play his system. They already stated that there are 100 in market working at this point. Why not let it be 101. Target dropped the ball and shipped out 150. Oops. It seems like Microsoft is handling the whole debacle well though and it's good that they are not making the players pay for Target's mistake.

I'm curious what the penalty is for Target. In the end, I see this benefiting them. I'm sure a few other geniuses thought they might be the next one to accidentally receive one and went with Target for that reason. That had to pay a hefty fine because if they didn't I can see this as a PR thing.

I don't think his console should have been banned at all. It was clearly Targets fault. The man bought the One, he received the One, he should be able to play the One. If Microsoft had an issue, they should have taken it up with Target. In addition, MS should be encouraging him to play and post it on YouTube. A regular consumer actually playing on the console? Talk about great publicity for Xbox! Get some hype out there. Get people excited to get theirs and get the fence sitters leaning towards your machine.

I think it was banned as MS is not fully done with the Xbox updates and software and other things like that.
There are still 2 weeks roughly.

Maybe its just me, but while I have watched a few YT unboxing and display videos, I want my first experience to be MINE.
There is only so much I want to know beforehand, I want some happy surprises, for spending almost $1000 counting
Live and games, I want some WOW of my own.

In fact I will probably not come to this forum from 11/21 to 11/23 as I want it to be me.

It is great he received his game system early and that was one hell of a story! He should sign up and be part of this group...

The only reason the console was banned is because LIVE still isn't ready, which at this point is troubling. I expect this launch to be a rough one which many frustrations in the first few weeks, but I'll I guess it's best to remain optimistic.

My main concern is getting the day one update, after that if things go down or Live has problems I will be OK and just play offline.
I think the first few days I will probably mostly play games and fool with the Kinect. All my games are store bought.

Same here, although I do plan on getting Killer Instinct and Powerstar Golf at launch.

I anticipate a few issues, but I'm sure all will be fine shortly after the launch. Trust me, PS4 folks will be going through the same type of issues... Only a week before we do. Already reading a few reports that their system has possible overheating issues.

I completely agree with you. Why would MS NOT want this YouTube video to go viral? And why would this man have to be punished for Targets mistake? From what I am hearing, MS completely dealt with this the wrong way, someone had their head up their you know what.

Xbox Live is not ready for the public. Simple as that. It's not a permanent ban and they will be unbanned prior to the release date. Not only that but this is being flown out to a release event party free of cost by MSFT. People are overreacting

Microsoft has NDA agreements with the content creators (I.E. game publishers, etc) to not show off the content until a certain time. Target released the console early, forcing a break in the NDA. The console was banned automatically (not whitelisted), keeping the NDA intact for the most part.

The guy who got his Xbox One early should absolutely not get access to Xbox Live until MS says so. It's a matter of legality.

If Microsoft had let him continue to use Xbox Live and the games/content therein, it could be a huge legal issue for MS and bad for Xbox in the long-run (i.e. publishers losing trust in MS).

for me and if it had happned to me i wouldnt be upset over the fact i cant get online... if live is not up and working properly it is not nov22 which is the launch date they have no reason to support live on the xbox one.

i hope he can still play the solo/campaign mode on ghost. no reason that should be a short term ban. the game was on the shelf and said to be good to go. this in itself would have been a real treat to see. gaming without cloud. :)

i would vet microsoft lifts his ban in the next few days and gives him a solid 4-6 days of early gameplay. like the article says micosoft already has 100 systems working and beta testing. having someone not in the loop trying to use it on microsoft's level would be a good indicator of real market function.

its funny only 1 slip up out of the 150 target consoles shipped early. you would think at least 10 video's would have hit youtube. maybe the other's did not have a game but still you would think more than one would have been excited enough to post the early arrival. i know if it was me i would be rubbing it all your faces lol :p

Good on Microsoft for flying the guy out to a release party. Their beef should be with Target. One heck of a lucky customer if you ask me, he probably has quite a bit already installed and updated and will be ahead of the curve to kick off the new generation.

I still can't believe he waiting until the 11th hour to pre-order the system only to get it 4 days later... I wish my luck was like that!

J

I would have the opposite luck. I would order on Day One and have it get lost in the mail :(

I hear ya! As I have posted in other threads, I'm still not sure I'm getting my system at Walmart during a midnight release. Store isn't 24 hours and of course no one knows anything in store... Preordered back in August and I'll see the system probably the 23rd... lol
