Microsoft claims that there is 5 billion transistors on the X1 die.

Well from a little sleuthing around the internet...

The cpu portion of the chip is about 1.2 billion transistors.
The gpu portion of the chip is about 750 million transistors.
The ESRAM portion of the chip is about 1 billion transistors.

What do the missing 2 billion transistors do?

Here's the thing, boasted specs are great and it's nice knowing your game system has the juice. However, it comes down to games. Back in the day, the SNES had more power (specs-wise) than the Sega Genesis, however, Sega won the 16 bit war in America. The PS3 had more powerful specs than the XBox 360, but the Xbox 360 clearly won in America. It's about the games, not the specs. Show me a fantastic game that utilizes what the system can produce and I'll be happy. In the long run, it will be the system that can produce the best games, long after specs are forgotten.
