How long do you think it will be before we see the next Xbox one price reduction? I am thinking we are due for one soon, but i've noticed over the years that consoles only tend to do that ahead of the release of a bunch of major titles and as quarterly shifts happen. Thoughts?

Perhaps soon, it seems that prices change internationally as the prices of games and consoles that I see online are synonymous with what I pay for them in the store here in South Africa. I'm not expecting them to drop soon, but perhaps by the end of this year they'll shave at least $50 off the default retail price. There will also be more bundles that include games or an additional controller for much cheaper than they are today, as that's what usually happens.

Here in the states it seems like price drops always come right around Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Christmas time. I think if anything they might do a temporary sale to boost holiday purchases. As for a permanent price drop, I'm not sure when we'll see that.

I'd imagine the next price cuts won't be long off as unfortunately the sales of the Xbox one are still falling behind the PS4. That's a good thing for us consumers and those that are still saving to be able to afford the Xbox one, but not so good for Microsoft obviously.

The thing that I remember hearing is price cuts correspond with the amount of games more than anything else, not because they -need- to, but because once there are more games, microsofts cut of releases becomes high enough that they want consoles in the hands of players

I wоuldn't hоld my brеаth fоr а biggеr priсе drоp thаn whаt it is аlrеаdy. Nоw is thе timе tо buy а Xbоx with аll оf thе Еxсlusivеs соming оut аs fаr аs bundlеs.

Thе Fоrzа соnsоlе lооks bеаutiful in my оpiniоn аnd I wоuld jump оn thаt bесаusе it's uniquе. I сurrеntly hаvе thе whitе Sunsеt Оvеrdrivе еditiоn аnd I lоvе it.

I'm not 100% sure if that's right regarding the price cuts depending on the number of games that's available.

I'd imagine that might be just how it seems, as the longer a console is on the market, the cheaper it gets, but the amount of games will be bigger aswell. The two aren't dependant on each other, but you could be right?

it is absolutely correct, I remember seeing a chart that shows there is a clear correlation between number of games available, being sold and the price of consoles. It's how they determine how profitable the system is, games sold + games available / consoles sold gives them a set rate of value, if cutting it by $100 means they will make more in game sales, they cut it by 100

I shall take your word for it then, haha!

You'd have hoped though that the price reductions would have been based on more than that, because if that's the case I'm not sure the gamer is getting a fair deal.

Then again, there's nothing new there then!

It's never about the gamer getting a deal unless that will make more sales yeah, lol. They just price to make the most money they can with their strategy, then adapt if they think another is better.

Unfortunately I think you're right. When you look at the popularity though when it comes to consoles and gaming, people are going to buy the games and systems no matter what so they'll always have that fan base.

It would be nice to think the likes of Sony and Microsoft could put their massive profits to one side every now and again, but I think we all know that's not going to happen anytime soon.

We are still some distance away from Christmas, but I think that it might lower in price in late November to early December. Prices always drop around that time since there are more people that are more willing to spend money.

Well, it seems like the console has been reducing its price so far, the last time I checked it out it was around $350, but I would have to check out the price once again. It really looks like Microsoft is going to have some major changes when it comes to consoles and their games, they're probably going to release more series and whatnot, we still have to wait a while to find out.

Well that is interesting. I cannot really say that I am surprised, and these companies have people devoted to analyzing trends and all of that data, but it is still interesting to think about it. I always just kind of thought it was some guy in a chair saying "alright, sure" and then all the sudden we saw a fifty dollar drop. Of course I am kidding, but I was closer to that than the analytics mentioned above...so that might tell you something. Interesting stuff, and thanks for sharing.

November is usually the time that the consoles do start to get a lower price, or you can start to get the deals like buy a console with 5 games included instead of just the 1 or 2. Holiday seasons are always good to look out for bargains, and especially this year with new consoles coming out on the horizon. Sony and Microsoft, even Nintendo will be looking to try and offload their older or current consoles more than ever.

@pwarbi I did not really know that console developers had a specific day or time of the year for the release of their new products, however, it's a smart move coming from them. There are going to be a lot of kids that will beg their parents to buy any of those and that's a good tactic.

This is true and added to this, PlayStation announced that they are going to launch a PlayStation 4.5 in September so that just means that the regular PlayStation 4 should lower in price just in time for Christmas.

It's all about sales at the end of the day, and if they can target specific times of the year when they know that people are going to be buying products such as this, then it obviously makes sense to target those set times when it comes to new releases.

It's not just the console manufacturers that do this but also game developers as well, and if they can release a game in time for Christmas, they know they will get more sales than if they release that same title in the middle of February for example.,

@pwarbi I actually think that every single product seller does that, it does not really matter what kind of product they make, they always have a specific time of the year to release their product, that'sreally smart, for real.

It does make good business sense to target your products at the right audience, and at the right times of the year. You're right when you say that happens with practically every product on the market, but when it comes to games and consoles then I do think it happens more than ever and traditionally the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday periods is when it happens the most.
