In general, most of the games will work on the 360. Some that didn't work initially were able to be played after system updates.
Backwards compatibility is one of my favorite aspects of gaming in this day and age. Back in the day, if you wanted to play a Nintendo game, you couldn't just put the cartridge in your Super Nintendo. It is awesome that we can play old games on new systems, even if it only goes one generation back.
