This app will be available for all major smartphone/tablet users and Windows 8 desktop/laptops. I know for fact that it's available for download/install on Windows Phone 8 as of this morning.

It's very robust! You can customize the Xbox One pins using your phone, browse everything, control your TV/Receiver/etc all using your phone, you can even snap/unsnap apps on your tv screen using your phone, etc There's a lot you can do with this app, I've just scratched the surface so far.

Listed so far within Smartglass are the featured companion apps for:
-Dead Rising 3
-Walking Dead (show)
-Doctor Who (show)
-Ryse
-Pacific Rim (movie)
-Blu-Ray (the Xbox One blu-ray drive)
-ESPN

Those are just the featured ones, obviously there's a ton more. Of course, without the Xbox One I'm not getting the full function of the app.

The app was always available, its the same as the 360 one. They just updated it.

No it's not. They are 2 separate apps.

There's the "Xbox SmartGlass" app that's the original one for the Xbox 360.

And there's the "Xbox One SmartGlass" app, this is the new one specific for Xbox One.

The marketplace lists them both and they install separately on the phone. :)

I'm curious to see Smart Glass will actually last and be worthwhile.

smart glass already has been working and out on the 360 for quite some time it is nothing all to new... altho the feel of the 360 version could be improved on the generals of it are decent. when in apps like netflix the scroll and select gets a little touchy with a touch screen phone which gets annoying.. the ability to control your system from a phone/tablet is nice tho.. especially if you watch netflix and such you can put the controler away from you and just watch and if you need to stop or want to go to something else you can..

allot of the time i get on 360 at night and streen tv shows when im about to pass out i use my iphone to shut down my system so nice:)

For the record, the Xbox One Smartglass app is lightyears ahead of the Xbox 360 version. It's cleaner interface, faster UI, and does a whole ton more!

My guess is that it's in beta? i am sure there would be some bugs under the hood

Maybe. But I think they kinda used ther 360 verison as a beta lol.

Hm must not be out for Android yet then. I can only find the one I already have. Is it out for iOS or just Windows?

Yeah, I just went looking for the app myself for my Samsung Galaxy S4 and nada.

Am i the only one that feels that this is going to be one of those things that will last one year, maybe two max, and then completely disappear? It seems to limited and not a lot of developers will go out just to put something in there.

well, if it's a beta and still works perfectly - why bother? haha

because the 360 smartglass app is very bare bones and really needs updating.. not that it dosnt work it just has allot to improve on especially with the 360 let alone the xb1.

when i say allot to impove on.
hear is a walk thru of how it works and how bare bones it is.

Ahead of the launch of its Xbox One console, Microsoft today released its Xbox One Smartglass app for the iPhone and the iPad. The app is designed to allow users to navigate their Xbox One consoles using the keyboard and touchscreen of the iOS device, much like the existing Xbox SmartGlass app.

With Xbox One Smartglass, an iOS device can function as a remote control to maneuver through the Xbox One's dashboard. It also displays information on the device when playing music or TV through the console and it can be used to browse the web.
