Xbox One Was bundling the Kinect a right move?

I think it was the right thing to do. Microsoft is dedicated to making Kinect work even if they have to bundle it in with the console. They know that it will be as important as the Xbox One itself. It has to be honestly.

Well having kinect is okay, but personally I don't really use it at all. My wife does, but well she does have issues on it still. I'd rather stick to the controller which for me is more convenient. This is just my opinion on the matter, but if some of the games didn't really need kinect I would have never bought it in the first place.

If the Kinect was truly mandatory I'd be all on board with "Yeah it was the right move! Are you crazy you can't use Xbox One without Kinect!" Nothing screams mandatory yet, but it's not a hindrance to me enjoying the Xbox One.

I don't find it necessary and I know it's definitely turning people away from buying it. If they sold it without the Kinect at a lower price, it'd probably be selling better.
I know for a fact I won't be buying one until it's been out for a while and it's lowered in price at least a little.

I think it was a smart move for "the long run". Maybe not right now, but I can see down the road a lot of kinect games
and a lot more kinect control coming.

Now if someone comes up with an idea that can use the Kinect for a game or something, they will have a much
greater probability of going thru with the idea as they know every single Xbox One has it. If only 10% had Kinect,
its a more risky venture so many might not risk it.

I can see great things for the kinect down the road. Way more advanced and better than what the 360 offered.

You know, seeing your points... I think you're right. You may have changed my views a bit. Yes, I can agree... "the long run". Its use will be more and more relevant as we move along. Well, we'll see in the long run. Short run, not so much. But long run... yes, there's use for it. There may be.

Bundling it with the Xbox One means they have a lot of stuff planned for it and that it will be more immediate than "the long run". You don't want to bundle it, hike the price out of competitive range, and say "Right now there's nothing special, but give it 3 or 4 years. Then you'll see."

Sure, Kinect will be getting more games but the X1 isn't designed or marketed around the Kinect. Kinect is only an accessory, not every game is going to have motion controls. Have it as a choice, sell the X1 at a lower price and if anyone that likes motion controls can get the Kinect just like the 360. Even though people have the Kinect now, those that aren't interested in motion gaming will not buy a Kinect game.

I don't care about motion gaming personally and could do without having the Kinect. I think Microsoft should have released two versions of the Xbox One, one bundled with Kinect and the other doesn't juat like the Xbox 360. They should have made it optional.

I would've preferred two versions. The only reason I think Microsoft didn't go that route is because they could end up with a bunch of Xbox Ones+Kinect units sitting around.

If the Kinect was truly mandatory I'd be all on board with "Yeah it was the right move! Are you crazy you can't use Xbox One without Kinect!" Nothing screams mandatory yet, but it's not a hindrance to me enjoying the Xbox One.

Even if they got Kinect games it still wouldn't scream mandatory enough to warrant having it bundled in. There would need to be a good amount of quality Kinect games which I feel they're building to.

I guess so. I hope they could come up with games that work perfectly for kinect. Some releases (aside from JustDance 2014) didn't actually work for me.

I guess it was a good move for me. Since my wife enjoys it so much especially when she's playing just dance. Well that goes the same for my kid. She just love teasing me whenever I play my game. She keeps saying Xbox record that. Haha. Love it.

I'd say it was not really right. It should definitely be optional. But then again, that's looking at it from one point of view. From another point, think: Xbox One was made with the Kinect in mind. It's part of the design. Microsoft clearly had some kind of design vision and it needed the Kinect. I think that without the Kinect, it wouldn't be the Xbox One. Well, just my thoughts.

I think that Microsoft has a lot more in store for us that will be involving the Kinect, which is why I'm going to go with the stance that I think it was a good move to make it one complete system. They obviously envisioned it with the Kinect as a complete system, so I'm fine with it being included. I personally think that V2 Kinect works so much better than the first version and enjoy using it with my Xbox One for the voice commands.

It was the right move. Why? 'Cuz like what spark_777 said, it was designed with the Kinect in mind. Microsoft has something in plan for the XB1 and without the Kinect, it wouldn't be complete. It's kinda like those fancy Samsung SMART TVs. You all know they have a system where you gesture to navigate the TV's menu right? Well, this is the same thing with the Xbox One. Optional can be possible but even then, Microsoft has something in mind. I guess like what rkkeller says here, it's all in the long run. All we can do is wait and see. But it's the right move.

It was not only the right move, but without out I would not have purchased the console. So for all the people crying that they won't buy the Xbox One because it doesn't have it, there are a lot of us who bought it BECAUSE it came with the console.

And something needs to be corrected:

Right now, it seems that Sony's cheaper price tag is paying off, they are outselling the Xbox and in less countries than the Xbox.

This is incorrect. The PlayStation 4 launched in over 30 more countries than the Xbox One. That has just a little bit to do with why they are selling more.

And why are we continuing to fluff off 3 million units sold?

So right! The Xbox one market is so small that it only comprises of a few countries. So if they get more countries to sell the product they would definitely sell more than sony.

A lot of people are saying they wouldn't have bought the console without the kinect bundled, but if that's the case it would have been just as easy to buy it separately. Of course, Microsoft loves forcing people to use technology/features that they otherwise wouldn't for some reason. I guess they figure their customers aren't smart enough to decide what they want on their own.

It's kind of Apple saying "Sure you think you want the freedom to tinker with your phone and you think iTunes is an unnecessary middleman for digital music and stuff, but you really want us to keep things restrictive."

You don't seem to understand the concept of standardization. It's like saying Apple and Samsung forced two cameras on us even though we may not have wanted them. Kinect is a feature of the Xbox One. That's really the bottom line here.

People that continue to try and separate the Kinect from the Xbox One like it's still an accessory have either not used it and understand it's integration with the system, or aren't open-minded enough to understand why it's a part of the console instead of a separate accessory.

I love too how people assume all 3 million+ of us Xbox One owners are just stupid herp-derpers who knew we didn't want the Kinect at all, but was magically fooled into buying it anyway. It's insulting and offensive as a gamer.

While I prefer Android myself and the openness to tinker around, in Apple's defense they set their devices up to just work. If you like to mess around with your phone going with Apple isn't the best decision.

...not much of an excuse for iTunes though.
