Your description of the fat guy made me remember that one South Park episode with the toilet surveillance. I enjoy using the Kinect for family games, I had a fun time playing Kinect Adventures with my younger relatives. With a Kinect, everything is more interactive. You're not confined to sitting down for hours straight, but you're moving around. Good way to get in some physical activity in my opinion.
That's basically my main reason. The kid's love games like kinect sports and the adventure game. When they have friends or family over we can easily take turns and no one feels like they need to learn how to use a controller or buttons for a certain game. It makes it easy for things like parties and removes a lot of the barriers. My dad and mom can be over and right away jump into a game of soccer with their grand daughter without having to "learn" anything. We love it. I'm not that concerned about someone from Microsoft or wherever watching me in the living room as I play kinect sports or watch breaking bad.... they would probably get pretty bored to be honest.
