Well, it seems like your wish will be granted! Maybe Activision read this thread a year ago and saw your point, haha 
Joking aside, this is exactly why I was/am so excited when I saw them announce the brand new Call of Duty - World War II.
It looks like a blast from the past and everything that I was missing in the new Call of Duty games. They went overly sci-fi and greedy. Every new game released was worse in my eyes. All I wanted was for them to go back to their roots, back to where they started and build on that. My favorite is still Call of Duty 4.
I have really high hopes for the new World War II. The trailer looks absolutely amazing and it takes me back to the past when I was so in love with this franchise.
It's still a bit away since it gets released in November but what they have teased us with so far shows great promise.
