Earlier this week, Microsoft posted up a teaser site for their upcoming reveal of DirectX 12, the next major version of its graphics API that's used in nearly every PC game. Now that site has been updated with a Xbox One logo in addition to the Windows symbol.

it is/will be the best video and most consistant over the console/pc boards.. which would make sense if they can get it to all work together on the xb1... should help developers as well.. im not sure how familiar anyone ofyou are with invidia inspector(pc) but its basically the program the high end guy are using to tweek the games for optimal gameplay and twitch stream.. i am not saying we will get that type of freedom.. but once its a known recipe on performance/gameplay its a simple patch to get the game at peak fps/buffer,texture rearing and such..

i run dx12 on my mac and it works well.. i dont have a high end video card but the drivers do the job nicely.

yourtube.. not related to microsoft.. but has some good info/discussion..

his biggest mention was the ability with directx12 to do 1080@60fps.. this would fall hand in hand with what titanfall had mentioned about getting better graphics.. say we get the dx12 update in a few months.. it would be mid dlc which would allow the game to be optimized.. and if he is right about the xb1 being built for dx12 and useing 11.2 as the placeholder it would make sense..

Well, well, this is going to be interesting. So it's already given that Xbox One is getting this. But what does this mean? It means that the Xbox One is about to get out of its graphic mishap and getting a nice slap to the butt (and it's a good slap).

Wow. Xbox One is definitely getting out of the graphic mishaps it's been suffering. And it's nice to see that this console is actually getting a graphical upgrade. A first for the console industry.

First time for a console to actually get uprgraded significantly. Hahaha, guess those comments about how the next-gen consoles are PC-like is coming true.

I have to agree with this. It's true. Never heard of consoles getting something like this.

Makes sense. I wonder how good this will be after the upgrade. I hope we get audio updates as well soon.

i honestly hope its true... and we should hear something today march20th..

for all intensive purposes this does fall into microsoft's random babble pre launch about how its going to take the ram, processor, and software to make the xb1 a machine.. and why the ram choice maade sense where everyone looked at it as a step back.

they have also hinted about titanfall tweeking graphics to be beter than 720 but it will take some doing... the directx12 plus the proper tweeking would be on par with the 900@60fps and possibly even help with the twitch streaming along with graphc tearing and video card acting funny.

microsoft has also mentioned latley how it was not transparent with releasing info and such around launch. but its very possible they were not 100% sure it was going to happen..

so many variables of if we do or dont.. whati t all means.. it could be the ace in the hole for the xb1..

Makes sense. Yeah. All we can do now is wait and see what MSFT will say on March 20.

Hope so. Graphics aren't gonna be good if the sound isn't good too. Why play something that looks so damn good when the sound ain't damn good? It's hard to play a game with audio that crackles at you.

Haha, I agree. What's the point exactly? Better hope X12 gets some audio upgrades too.

March 20 is where we'll know the answers to all this thing about the X12. If it's true.... well, it's going to be phenomenal.

I know right, but well I hope we really get some decent audio updates together with it.

It has been confirmed. Directx 12 to Xbox one and comes out Christmas 2015! I am stoked about this! I bet halo 5 is set for this time frame as well.

yes sir it was confirmed

Today at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Microsoft took the lid off its graphics API, DirectX 12. According to the company, developers will have more direct control over their visuals than ever, with more complex scenes and rendering features. And yes, these changes should translate to Xbox One games, in addition to a new focus across multiple platforms.

i like to hear this.

i hate to hear anything about holiday 2015.... that is a long way off.. with to many potential games to be running on directx11 and having to struggle... i would be ok with directx12 hitting xb1 around christmas this year...2014..

Still a long way to go if that's the case. I wonder what the hold up is all about.

I'm still unsure whether this will really improve it or not. But hey, since they want it to happen I'd get this update.

i dont think you will have the option to not have it... the games will just about require it... especially if they are built around that graphics package..

directx12 is not a upgrade from directx11.2... its physically a new poduct...
- Better performance with multi core CPUs

- Load off GPU

- Better performance for mobiles and tablets

DX12's focus is on enabling an increase in visual richness through a decrease in API-related CPU overhead. DX12 gives the application the ability to directly manage resources and state, and perform necessary synchronization. As a result, developers of applications utilizing the new API can efficiently control the GPU. The DirectX 12 API will span the Xbox One, some tablets, and smartphones for universality.

Good to know. So they're really perfecting the graphical experience that we have on Xbox One.

i wouldnt call it perfecting
. just making it easier on developers.. it should be what it was suppose to be at launch.
