Xbox One Xbox One Developer Kit can be accessed with a few clicks --- but don't do it

Well if that's the case they should remove it. Or like you said, put a red light flashing or maybe a restriction.

I agree with both of you. They should have removed the feature if it wasn't for public use. What's the sense in adding it if you cannot use it at all.

Yeah it honestly shouldn't even be there if it's going to cause your stuff to seize up and become useless.

Everyone needs to be very careful with this. People are already being tricked into bricking their system. If u get a message that claims how to make your console backward compatible by doing the following;

Go to system menu
Press LB,RB,LT,RT in order quickly
select developer console
check the "enable dev kit" box
change the sandbox ID to freezone.reboot
select "reset home console"

If u do this this it will brick your Xbox. I wouldn't normally tell people how this is done but id hate to see some gullible kid or adult fall for this and be out 500$. My word of advice is dont even play with it. U will get burned!

I just read this a few mins ago on Major Nelson's Twitter account. Yeah, this is totally bogus and should not be attempted unless you can afford to purchase a new game system.

I want PSAs from developers about the dangers of Dev Mode or better yet a Reefer Madness version of messing with Dev Mode with a completely unbelievable series of events.

"It could be your Xbox One, or your Xbox One...or yours."

I would love PSAs for stuff like this. Sometimes they're just needed since some are just going to attempt it anyway as if they have the know how.

I would say this shouldn't be attempted even if you could afford another consoles. $500 is a bunch of other games, some pre-orders, a PS4 with games, a boatload of Quarter Pounders and increased winning chances (PLUG), Live Gold for this generation and some of next. The random applicable math of $500 goes on. At any rate, don't trash your X1.

True, true. Definitely shouldn't be attempted. Seriously, who should? Some people just want to screw with you. And besides, why tinker with the console to its limits? No way in hell will I try. Steer clear people.

But there will be still people who'll do it anyway, despite the warning. Ah, it annoys me when people still do this kind of stuff despite the warning. It's like, they want to feel it's real but then when they finally do it, it'll have them suffer. *Sigh*

Better than showing the picture. The picture looks like it's legit so anyone will be fooled into it. Your version already has the warning, so this is good. I hope everybody who's yet to read this will not read and do this.

I'd say changing the title to a warning than news would help as well as the instructions above.

I still don't understand who would take the risk. Just because the feature is there doesn't mean that you should mess around with it. Casual owners at home aren't devs, there are settings on the Xbox One that you won't understand so why would you take the risk of destroying your system by fooling around with things that you don't get. I feel bad for the people who bricked their consoles but they should have known better.

People will do the opposite of whatever good advice despite the warning and danger. Not everyone will do it and like you said silvananoir, there are owners who aren't devs, won't understand some settings, and will fool around with stuff anyway.

That's true. I've been guilty of sitting in chairs that say "Don't Sit" and crossing "Caution" tape. In the case of this, I'm thinking it's not understanding what "bricked" means.

I truly believe anyone can understand basic slang lingo, brick or paper weight etc. If I were to be talking about the 360 I may say RROD " Red ring of death".There's no set way of saying complete system failure. We use accroynms or slang in everyday conversations if u can't look past in bold letters DO NOT and not put the rest together than maybe u deserve what comes next. Sound harsh maybe it if u can't put. 2 & 2 together then its your own fault. This is basically educating information of exactly what not to do. If people did not no how it works then how will they know what to look for? Its not rocket science!

I'm not going to lie, there are some people who just can't put two and two together without making a production out of it. In this case, it should be obvious what "bricked" means and "Don't do it" is. That said, I guess you could put a brick with "XBOX" on it and a warning in all caps, red letters, and bold.

...people would probably still do it anyway.

People are going to obtain this information anyways better they get it here in right context than scammed by believing they can make it backward compatible right? U can go through life oblivious to everything but one way or another u will learn. Its a line of common sense and if someone fails to read the writing on the wall then they will have learned the hard way but still they will learn. I dont care how unintelligent someone may be, u put your hand on a hot stove I bet u wont do that twice.

If it was such a big deal a moderator would have already pulled my post down. Like I stated in a separate thread that someone else posted about this, I for warned of my post and if it was not in appropriate context then to pull it off the forum. Whats going on here is people making things a bigger deal than what they really are. Its no different then telling someone not to do drugs. They have to make that decision based on the information they know about it right? Im just providing the right knowledge. If they dident hear it from me they might of heard it wrong somewhere else.

Honestly, i think it would be cool to see what some people come up with. But i would not do this myself.

I agree, that you should be cautious when doing any tinkering with your console. Especially before you know what it will actually do, you should just steer clear of it. I would just wait until you know it is absolutely safe, because you know someone will produce a video or hack ensuring your consoles safety.

That goes with all electronics really, when I first got an Ipod touch (1st generation), I accidently turned it back and deleted all my content because I was messing with settings. I'm sure that people think they understand the consoles, think that they know enough about technology to mess with the settings but we don't. So people need to calm down and just leave it alone.
