Xbox One Xbox One Ebay Scam

It really sucks to read something like this, but I have to blame the buyer for not making sure that the seller had good reputation. I guess in the end it didn't really matter since he got his console anyway.

The guy who got scammed got a free Xbox One. So that picture is long gone from his memory. He can enjoy playing the games! But man, can't believe there are scammers like that in the world. Picture?! Worst and disrespectful scam I've ever heard of.

Wow, really? Well, at least it ended happily. Serves the scammer right. He might've made easy money, but he sure will get mad that the guy he scammed got a free Xbox One. ahahah. Yup, I'm not going to buy on eBay sites when it comes to consoles, especially for the next-gen.

Yeah, I agree. I'm glad the lad got his free console, but it is after all a lesson learned: ALWAYS check if the seller has a good rep. Check the reviews of the sales he did, check his feedback, check everything. Sometimes, those too-good-to-be-true sellers can really be scammers.

First there was a post about robbers who couldn't find Xbox One's in a store and so they robbed PS4's, now this... I guess people are just taking advantage of a hot product, that's all. Pretty stupid though to put a picture in the packet and sell it for $450.. come to think of it... VERY stupid.

Selling the picture for $450 wasn't stupid, it was scam supreme. Stupid was not reading the description or doing the research on a merchant before buying it.

Yeah, the "stupid" part is right. But even then, you could also be fooled even when you've read the description. Sometimes, scammers just know the good way to fool you with elegantly-written descriptions. Scammers just get better and better these days. And that's scary.

I know right? Robbery and scams are getting ridiculous and crazy these days. As for the picture selling, there's a lot we don't know about this one. What if the description of the product was written so nice that it was like it was never a scam from the start? There's so much we don't know about that part at all. The scammers may have been so good with their thing they were able to get away with it without being noticed. Ah, well, that's how it is. Some people will fall for it.

Even then, you always look at the merchant's rating. People sometime do the same when they go in restaurants and see the health inspector's rating in red, check what they're getting before buying a used car from a particular dealership, or yes, what console to pick if not going in on brand loyalty. I can understand being really desperate for the latest console, but the merchant rating is usually right there next to their name in an easy to follow star format with a percent next to it.

Maybe the buyer came from Saturn where low stars/low percentage is good and high stars/high percentage is bad.

It really isn't difficult to take a look at seller rating and go "...this person must be new, shouldn't trust this guy completely...especially with the brand new PS4 and Xbox One out."

It's actually the least difficult thing you could do on Amazon or eBay (with creating your account taking a little more effort, but not being difficult at all). All you have to do is look and use just a smidgen of comprehension. Plus there's news stories on scams...there's always a local and national news story about whatever scams (sometimes weeks later).

You can also make the ratings fake right? Have a bunch of associates make ratings to make it look like you're legit. That's even scarier. I guess the only way to really check is to study the merchant carefully. See any consistency.

We all gotta take a look at the merchant with scruntinization. If what diamonback8 says, then there's definitely a chance even the most legit merchant has something to hide. That's why we all gotta be careful.

You right, dood. Even legit merchants can fool you into thinking they're legit. We always have to be careful with what we buy online. That's why you got to scrutinize to the point that you're sure they're for real.

See? Well, the point is we all have to make the scrutinizing before making the purchase. Online purchasing is fine but we really need to be careful who we trade with. Well, as long as we don't end up buying a picture worth more than what this guy got scammed with, we're good. Lesson learned.

Bascially: I'll watch what I buy on eBay. That's pretty much it. Good deals but things might be lurking that can potentially screw us over. So even that nice little deal can actually be something that can scam us to the end. Better watch out for it then.

It wasn't $450 as stated in the first post, if you check the article is was £450 which is approx $750!!

If your paying that for a console you need your head checking, you know how the saying goes..."A fool and his money are soon parted"

I know he wanted it for Christmas but get a grip!

You always have to be on your toes with ebay because they make it difficult to get your money back when you've been scammed. That's why I usually go with Amazon when I buy things over $200 because at the very least there is a massive safety net there. Still Ebay is great for deals if you're careful and watch yourself. Always look at the seller's ratings, always read the description very carefully and take a screen shot of it if you need to dispute the sale.
