I recently bought myself an xbox one and I love it. The interface is great and everything has been running smoothly. My question is, do you think that the xbox one is suitable for children. My kids are 4 and 6 and I was looking to get them something for christmas. Does the xbox one have a lot of children's games and features or is the system a little too mature for them?

I got mine for a christmas gift for my 8 and 5 year old. Although its for me as well. They both right now play the ps3 and wii. There are not many kids games right now for it, mostly adult games. I got for my kids zoo tycoon and lego marvel superheroes. The rest of the games are for me. When the kinnect sports rivals comes out, they can play that as well. Just dance is also out, but i dont know much about that game. There will be future kid games i am sure so no worries on my end.

Yuo shouldn't be worried about find games for kids on the XB1, I feel like there will be plenty in the future. Of course there aren't that many games because it's been just released, for example Plants Vs Zombies coming up next year and that's an XB1/Microsoft exclusive. Or you could just get them a Wii U (I wouldn't) if you're that worried.

Since the Xbox One is still very new and has only just been released, I don't believe there are many children's games out just yet. I do though believe that in the future there will be many titles that will be suitable for all ages. I hope to see a very wide variety of age related games.

Okay maybe I will wait longer until some more games are released before I maker my decision

There will be games for children eventually, but I don't think it will be for a while. IMO, generally the first few years will have games that are geared more towards the hardcore gamers. In the later years, you'll get more games catered to casuals and younger children.

Have you thought about picking up a 360 or PS3 on the cheap? Both of them will have plenty of options and most of the games are pretty cheap now. I feel like your kids wouldn't care that the graphics were good, they would just want games they could play together.

Honestly, you're better off getting a 2DS/3DS or something for your children. Maybe a 360/PS3. Maybe even a Wii U, if you want to stay fairly current. It's cheaper and it has a bigger catalogue of kid-friendly games. Xbox One and Playstation 4 don't really have much for kids at the moment, really...

I don't think this is a console just for kids, there are after all games that are brutal and need parental guidance. Well, except for peggle and other games that are mainly for kids. I don't recommend kids playing fighting games without adult supervision. (Especially cause my 4 year old niece mashes the buttons like there's no tomorrow)

I agree with the others that you don’t have to use an Xbox One to satisfy the children. When you think vicariously of their position, they aren’t technical on the graphics card or amount of RAM, especially with the age range you’ve given to us. They’re busier trying to get into the experience than giving a play-by-play critique of how fast the console can perform on standby.

I honestly still play really old games that were from the GameCube, and Nintendo would be a more valid source for them to play with. Of course, I’ve met children that demolished me in the 360 and PS3 in games I never knew they would have the competence in. Then if you add in those YouTube videos of children going ballistic when they get a copy of GTA 5, sometimes what’s really the barrier for children isn’t as black and white as it seems.

As long as you don’t have the kids that don’t get bored pretty easily and crave extreme violence, maybe gravitating to any older consoles you have will be better. Of course, with games in general, maybe there might be some form of parental control you could implement? Like turning off blood or something like that if that may be your concern, but for the language in the game, I don’t think they’ll have a teddy bear edition for all of them. ;)

Kids are very imaginative at that age. You could feasibly get them the cheapest gaming system on the market and they will enjoy it all the same. The only reason I say this is because the Xbox One is fairly expensive, and you already own one.

There are games for kids below 10 years old. I think that exposing them to the new technology and the newer games would make them more mature in a way (just make sure that you are there when they are playing. I strongly recommend racing games since this will keep them hanging on their seats.

At the moment, there aren't that many kid's games yet to Xbox One other than Zoo Tycoon and the LEGO games as the others say here. If you're going to get something, have at it with the 2DS/3DS. THOSE systems have a lot of games for the kids, like Super Mario 3D Land, Animal Crossing and Pokemon X/Y. Anyway, the Xbox One is relatively new and there aren't many games to play with yet so let 'em have something to play on the go and have something that'll be magical for them. Mario knows how to do that ;) You can also for the Wii U. The Wii U is something you and your children will love 'cuz it's got a lot of mutiplayer games. Wii U has a big focus on multiplayer, so games like New Super Mario Bros. U and Rayman Legends will be fun for the whole family!

For now, it's not yet a kid's console on account that most games (save for Zoo Tycoon) are mature and for the adults and teens. But if you don't mind your kids being exposed to that kind, then don't worry about it. If you are minding about it, I'd suggest to get a Wii U if you want to upgrade your Wii. There's a lot of good multiplayer games to choose from, ranging from Super Mario 3D World which just came out, Wii Party U, Nintendo Land, Rayman Legends and more. There's options, my friend, options!

Probably the only game that is for kids on this console is Zoo Tycoon and Angry Birds. Other than that, the other games are too much for kids to handle. I agree that Wii is the best option for kids. They have a lot of games that are simple yet are child friendly. Still there are other options out there: like getting NDS.

It'd be a great system for kids. It'll probably be sometime before there'll be games for kids but it'll be good. Ah, wait, yeah there are some games you can play with your kids. Just Dance 2014 comes to mind. You can also wait for Rayman Legends in February. Yup, you got some games to play with your kids.

Yeah, Just Dance 2014 is a great game. But are there other child friendly games aside from it. I was playing Dead Rising before and it scared my daughter really bad. Well now she's used to it and she's playing it. But I want her to play something normal.

I think the OS and launch games are just not kid friendly.

If you already have one, why not get your young kids a WiiU and let them play games on yours. Save yourself some money man.

Not really. I would go with the Wii U, they have more games on there that are for children. The Wonderful 101 is great for both kids and adults (there is plenty of adult humor that they won't get), there's also the new Super Mario 3D World which is one of the best platformers I've ever played next to Rayman Legends which is also on the Wii U.
