Not really. I would go with the Wii U, they have more games on there that are for children. The Wonderful 101 is great for both kids and adults (there is plenty of adult humor that they won't get), there's also the new Super Mario 3D World which is one of the best platformers I've ever played next to Rayman Legends which is also on the Wii U.
Exactly my thoughts! A joystick may be harder to use for children, while the Wii U, besides having more games for children, is much easier to use also. So go for that! Best of all, there are plenty of games for grown-ups also! I remember playing bowling once, it was quite addicting!
