If you've been nagging to get the Verizon app on your Xbox One, you're in luck: it's now up for download for free. The downside: you need Verizon AND Xbox Live Gold for this. So much for it being free.

As reported by Gamespot,
A free Verizon FiOS TV app is now available on Xbox Live, but you'll need subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold and Verizon to make use of it. The same is true for the existing Xbox 360 Verizon FiOS TV app.

Users can stream up to 74 live channels (the exact number depends on your subscription package) through the Xbox One using the app, which also features Kinect voice and gesture controls.

Since the Xbox One already allows you to patch through your cable feed directly to the system, you might wonder why you'd need to download the app at all.

Verizon says one benefit is you'll be able to stream two video feeds at once using the Snap feature. The benefits for sports fans is obvious: watching two games at once, but this also works for any other live programming.

My thoughts? I got not much to say since I don't have Verizon, Gold or the Xbox One. But this one looks to amplify what the Xbox One is being: all-in-one entertainment console. Imagine this guys: this is one app that COULD replace your cable boxes. This one shows live channels all from the comfort of your Xbox One. This sure as hell beats down PS4 in terms of who can have the live channels. Cable might be dying down over the years, but this one app already shows Xbox One is more than ready to start being the replacement. Well, if it means being able to watch The Walking Dead every week, then this is going to be awesome.

This looks to be a great app for those people that don't have a cable subscription and DO have both Verizon and Xbox Gold. I have ATT U-Verse with a ridiculously large DVR, so I doubt that I'll ever utilize this app though. Has anyone tried it out?

i have not used this app but i can tell you my 360 has the time warner app and it was proably 80% of my 360 use... if/when the time warner app comes for the xb1 i will be all over it like stink on a skunk. i dont have a cable hookup in my room where the xb1 is at... so a digital app is SO nice. once you get use to useing the app its so nice.

everything has photo's/discriptions of what is live. so easy to navigate you get like 220 channels and can live stream the nfl/ppv and such.. it really is a nice setup and the verizon one looks very similar to the time warner.

Looks like the ONE in Xbox One is coming along nicely. Well, I can't enjoy this one because there's no Verizon in the Philippines but this looks like it can be a potential platform of goodness for the local service providers here in my country. Nice app indeed.

Wow. This app is really, really nice. So I can play some games and then if I want to watch my Game of Thrones, I can switch over to this app and watch some TV. This one really shows the Xbox One is the all-in-one indeed. No need for the chunky cable box. This is going to be great indeed.

Awesome. So the Xbox One can finally be a replacement for the cable box. This finally shows it is the all-in-one console. Just play a game, watch TV shows and Skype with someone. As someone who's all hyped for a PS4, I'm more than getting hyped for the Xbox One too. Sweet indeed.

Wow. A cable box can finally be replaced? This is awesome. This gives me another reason to buy the Xbox One. Of course there might be bugs and glitches, but still, this brings about a great future for Xbox One when it comes to TV.

Ahhhh... finally. A new reason to get the Xbox One: watching TV through it. This one finally lets me see the reason it's the all-in-one entertainment console. No longer will I buy chunky cable boxes or unnecessary stuff; just plug something to the Xbox One, get the app and bam! I can watch TV. "Kinect, open Verizon!". Oh yes, The Walking Dead through the Xbox One. Oh yeah.

Well the problem is the app doesn't have most of the channels and currently only has 80; not to mention many people watch TV via their DVR and not live. Still this is a good option if you keep you XB1 in the bedroom or away from the primary cable box.

I saw this last night, but haven't fooled with it yet. I can use my parents signon as they don't do anything online like this.

I am still waiting for an Xfinity app as I thats what I have so soon I will be able to use both.

apps like this really come in handy at night when you want to just pass out.. set the controler on the xb1 grab your smart phone and use smartglass.. never get up and just shut things down fro mthe phone.. soo great... come on time warner cable.

Awww yeah. It definitely comes in handy. Then add a Lazy Boy chair and life is just going to stay still for you :-D hahaha. We're going to see more apps like this pop up from time to time.

lazy boy lol i stay in bed lol... why the iphone is soooo nice with smartglass.

No more remote! haha. I'm looking forward to this kind of app. Just say "Xbox, jump to AMC" and we can watch The Walking Dead or "Xbox, jump to ABC" and we can watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Just using voice is the remote control.

Wahahaha. I use my bed only for sleeping XD lol but right, right, I'll definitely love to use some of thay Smartglass on my iPhone.

I'm curious when will other apps like this appear. This can really be the revolution to cable programming, where cable services can say, "You get the Xbox One, we'll slash off prices of the montly service" which means they're just taking out the cable box out of the equation. Saves a lot of money, don't you think?

I can see more and more cable boxes being replaced with Xbox One in a few years time. Maybe this is what Microsoft really planned: to make it the all-in-one for real. Well, Microsoft sure had this planned well.

Great. It's good that I have verizon. Haha. :) beats using the remote for watching TV.

Well go for you guys, I have DTV. I hope they could release an app for DTV as well. I hope they can have it soon so I can also watch TV without using my remote.

I have played around with this a bit, and I will not be getting rid of my cable box anytime soon. Like KN1GHTMARE said, there are not enough channels for this to replace your main cable box, yet. It has some potential. I like that Verizon seems to be the first to make the leap. Perhaps we will be the first to get improvements as well. Till then you Xfinity and DTV guys don't have too much to be jealous of.
