Xbox One Xbox One gets the Verizon live TV App --- but you need both Verizon and Gold

I have played around with this a bit, and I will not be getting rid of my cable box anytime soon. Like KN1GHTMARE said, there are not enough channels for this to replace your main cable box, yet. It has some potential. I like that Verizon seems to be the first to make the leap. Perhaps we will be the first to get improvements as well. Till then you Xfinity and DTV guys don't have too much to be jealous of.

But when Xfinity and DTV gets in on this, then that's where we'll see the magic happen. Xbox One is already gaining some ground with this, so at least we know there's potential for this. We;'ll see it happening.

I have Fios and have been playing with this. It's not a bad app per se. It does have some things going for it, but I wouldn't be clamoring for it anytime soon if I didn't already have Verizon. It doesn't have enough channels so I'm sticking with my box. It's the first step so we have to give it that but currently, in this form it's not worth it.

We'll just have to wait then until the Xbox One gets a proper app that can truly replace the cable box. But it's beginning so it won't be long before we see cable boxes getting sold on eBay or Craiglist.

anything new with the Verizon TV App on Xbox One?

I am new to Xbox and Verizon TV app. I sent back all my set boxes, and cut services to the lowest, with Verizon.. and just have the Verizon local TV for ten buck a month. I only get about 10 channels, all the others say that I am not subscribed. I was told by Verizon that I get over 100 channels. I should check with Verizon, but need to be able to hold for a long time..

Thought I would check with other Xbox community for their experience.

Hmm seems like a pretty cool partnership since almost everyone in the US has verizon. Hopefully it'll get more customers to go for gold membership since they'll see more bang for their buck.

I sent back all my set boxes

Pretty sure you need a box to get most of the 100 channels you are suppose to be getting. I have one tv in my kitchen that I just plugged a coax in the back and I get local channels. The app is very limited in the channels you can access. It is very likely that none or very few of the "100 channels" you subscribe to are part of the app. If you go on their website you should be able to view a channel lineup for the package you are paying for and compare that to the channels listed on the app.

if its anything like time warner cable app... it will rock..

you wont need a box top... its an app... that is verified thru your provider. but you will need at minimum a digital package.. not bsic cable but a hd/digital package..(some companies require 1 box in house) but does not require the xb1 to be hooked up to box.. i know this becaue this is how my 360 was setup... my tv only had the 360 and an antenna to get my channels i got 200 channels on the twc app thru my internet connection.

the kicker is you only get the mid/upper channels.. the local news and such you wont get.. but mtv, discovery, bbc, nat geo ect ect are all easily accessible along with shows you probably don't know you get. you still get commercials like the live streamtv.. the search guide is on(would be better if it was xb1 tv tuner ready) but it i setup like amazon,hulu,netflix.. so the learning curve is like 0... its all tiles and picture of what is on..

you can favorite channels so u can get on them quick. saves from scrolling thru 100 or so to find that show u want.

i really wish time warner would release a xb1 app.:(

Woah so they really released a live tv app for verizon. Good thing I just switched to them. Haha. I'll check this out later.

Yes they did man. Well from my experience with verizon (generally not good) so I'm not going to get this.

Not really excited about this. Just one question, if I had verizon would it be automatically downloaded on my console?

After you download the app I think you have to use the same name and password sign on you use for your email.

To clarify my earlier post. You do not need a cable box hooked up to the Xbox One for the app to function. But in my experience with the app there were not a whole lot of channels. In order to watch a lot of the stuff I want to watch I need the cable box and tv. I don't find the app to be a substitute for having a cable box. Maybe someday.

This could work. I am now a comcast subscriber but I still have my old email from Verizon. Will it work?

Not really sure about this. I have the app and I'm using it. I guess you need to check with verizon about this.

Yeah, they're probably earning more now.

So it's all linked to the verizion account that you have.

It is. The first time you open the app you have to log in with your Verizon linked email address and password.

Yeah, actually tried it but for some reason my verizon login won't work anymore because I'm with comcast.

you have to have an active verizon account... its attached to your contract... you also need the digital teir of cable. but you sont need the box hooked up..

you may not get 300+ channels but you will have 100-150. odds are you willl lack the fox news, cnn news, and the local stuff... which makes up the 20-50 "local" channels" but you would have the nationwide stuff.. so say tbs has big bang theory at 8-9pm it would be on that channel during those times...

Yeah, well that isn't much of a pleasant thing. I actually hate Verizon!
