Xbox One includes Kinect gestures for Internet Explorer browsing

yeah, you sound just right. They are trying new turf - getting those hand motions to make an original and unique way to surf. Hope it works as good as it's presented

In addition, Microsoft has increased integration with Xbox SmartGlass so that players' smartphones and tablets can not only be used to navigate Internet Explorer on Xbox One, but also move websites back and forth between the TV and a mobile device.

Regarding gesture control, users can navigate Internet Explorer on Xbox One by moving their hands up or down to pan around the page. The app also supports zooming in and zooming out via gesture controls.

Saw the GiantBomb Xbox One stream, where they actually shown a lot of the system and what it can do, and the browser (even though it's the internet explorer) it was really smooth and really nice paired with the Kinect. Even then, i think i prefer a keyboard to navigate, i ain't much into speaking to machines yet.

The Kinect is totally watching you and then using your socio-economic date to provide "personalized" ads. They'll see if you're a little chubby and start advertising Dominos around lunch and dinner time. It's only a matter of time! Eek!

Makes browsing porn a whole lot easier...

Hahahahahaha. That's.... creepy XD All you have to do is say something like "open video" or just wave your hands to go back and forth. Hehehe, you can even close the browser easily when you're about to get caught. Just don't let anybody know there is even gestures on Internet Explorer. If they know that, they'll just do the gesture to open and bam! You're caught.

That's what irks me a bit. So if they see me playing the Vita in my room, they'll start telling me that SmartGlass will rule. Or if they see me reading a novel, they'll advertise novels to me. That's why I'll just turn off the Kinect when I'm not really using the Xbox One.

This is really going to be next-gen then. Being able to open my email with a swipe, using a voice command to close a tab, giving a precise point and click to one part of the page... this is going to be awesome! We'll definitely see the updates they can give to this new function. And hey, the new Kinect is coming to PC next year, so you guys ready for yourself 'cuz what the Kinect does for Xbox One, we'll all be doing for our PC! (And that means porn is going to be a hands-free experience >:D hahahahaha... kidding.)

If they are watching me, I feel sorry for what they saw last night.

Not too surprising to see the Kinect being used like that. There’s 3D companies like Maya that utilize the Kinect for 3D Motion Capture Face detection. There’s even a software that can use 1-2 Kinects and you basically have your cheap version of creating a motion captured animation for all sorts of things.

Can’t wait to see how people will find ways to mod this and come up with something creative to use this.

I dunno about you guys but Kinect + IE is like a match made in Hell for me... urgh.

Ah yeah, the modding aspect. This may just accelerate next-gen to a whole new level. Just think: you'll be able to do things that you can never do on a controller. I'm not suggesting that it will replace controllers but if the modders can somehow make the Kinect more accessible even to some of us who are more controller-ish in gaming, it may just enhance the rep of the Kinect.

Similar to the Kinect dashboard navigation, you can hover over links on a webpage and simply gesture to click on them. If there’s a number of links close to each other then Internet Explorer will zoom in to make it easier to pick between them. The voice controls are also improved, allowing Kinect users to scroll up and down, browse to, or click on pages. If you have The Verge in your favorites then you can simply say "Browse to The Verge" without having to repeat the full URL.

Cool, really look forward to this. I never knew that they added this to the features.

Kinect is watching, but still is cool. haha. hands free like you said.

Hahahaha. Oh right, I forgot: Kinect IS watching after all. So they can actually see what we're doing. I'm going to laugh when they start advertising stuff that will.... never mind, I'm going too far with this :o I'll just stick to the topic. Anyway, yeah, this will be cool. Just swiping gestures to open tabs. My controller can rest.

Almost all laptops and cell phones have cameras, so why is no one worrying about that? They are a lot more widespread than this.

Well, I have begun to accept the fact that we are a culture of consumers, therefore, it is only normal and expected that the marketing giants will try to find any way to satisfy our out of control consumption needs. That to say, we have all signed a deal with the "devil" a long long time ago. Either we accept and have fun with the products we are purchasing, or we walk around ultra paranoid and miserable...I choose, LET'S HAVE FUN!!

Exactly! Can we not just enjoy this new product without having to find some way to be paranoid about it? I have a friend that puts a piece of electrical tape on his laptop camera and his cell phone camera when he isn't using it (in my personal opinion I think this is completely insane), but hey, it makes him feel safer, so that would be my suggestion if you are ultra paranoid like he is.

It's a good feature if you'll ask me, that way my controller can rest. Plus, if you think about it on the brighter side, you get to do a little exercise once in a while. Haha. Resting and exercise at the same time. Plus you get to browse the internet on a wider screen. Unlike if you do it on your computer (that is unless you have a ginormous screen)

That is a great feature to look forward too. I just love everything about the Xbox One overall.

But they're not built like the Kinect, which watches us when it's on. Then again, yeah, there's a chance a hacker can access the cameras without us noticing. Well, you can always plaster the cameras. But yeah, they're not built like the Kinect of the Xbox One.

I'm pretty steadfast in my hatred of the Kinect. I don't own one know and I don't want to own one in the future. I'm not a fan of the fact that Microsoft is pretty much forcing me into owning a peripheral that I would never use. From what I've seen the Kinect kinda works if you have the patience for it. And I don't. I'm hoping that Microsoft realizes that plenty of consumers feel this way and release an Xbox One without the Kinect.

So if MS built the kinect into the Xbox One's itself like a laptop has and was still $499, it would be different?

They have already said they will not release an Xbox One without it as it is integrated so tightly with the One. I am not sure you
understand that many bought the Xbox One somewhat due to the kinect and its features. I know I probably would have waited if not for all
the neat kinect features.
