Xbox One XB1 & PS4 will NOT play 3D Blu-rays at launch

To be honest, I’m not really too picky on seeing more pixels on the screen. 720p and even 1080p still boggles my mind already. As long as I can hear and see something decently, I’m not going to be picky about anything.

And with the size in Blu-Ray disks, it would be an inconvenience if you’re a hardcore movie fan. I’ll just stick to my laptop for that kind of stuff.

Never again will I doubt the relevance of 3D technology. I remember when they first started back doing 3D movies and I can quote myself saying their was no way that trend would catch on. Then it did and I said their was no way this trend would last longer than a year, and since just about every movie released has been 3D. With that being said I think this could be a drawback seeing as how 3D is now making its way into the homes of consumers and as we go forward in terms of technology, it shows no signs of slowing. I'm getting the vibe though that when Microsoft getting closer to releasing its home entertainment system add-on we will hear more about 3D capability as it pertains to the Xbox One. Out of the gate though I definitely see this being an issue for Xbox One and Microsoft in terms of swaying the opinion of the average consumer.

The fact that PS4 is offering 3D Blu-Ray is cool and all, especially given the $100 lower price tag on it, but the fact that the Xbox One doesn't have it isn't enough to make me switch consoles at this point. What a lot of people don't think about is the fact that not only do you have to have a 3D-capable video player, you also have to have a 3D-capable TV and those bad boys are extremely expensive! Plus, the movie itself has to be in 3D and there just aren't that many out there yet.

This will disappoint nobody that I know.

MP3 playback on the other hand...

Yea I just read that too. I updated the OP just now. Thanks for the heads up.

Nice that the truth the PS4 isn't perfect either is finally coming out...

Yup! Apparently the PS4 has its own version of a next gen red ring. The HDMI ports on many are being reported as faulty. They stop displaying video all the sudden, bummer! Hopefully fixed soon because I plan on getting a PS4 for Infamous.

Was going to post an article about that PS4 issue. Apparently, one of the folks who receive a defective system was a winner of their Taco Bell contest. He contacted Sony who told him to contact the prize center who said it wouldn't be replaced prior to the PS4 launch! Talk about WTF moments...

So what do you guys think about the fact that the Xbox One doesn't have 3D Blu-Ray support and the fact that the PS4 does? If they can add it as a system update, cool, but honestly, I'm not sure how long the 3D Blu-Ray thing will last. Do you think it's here to stay? I think that it won't really stick until they can produce the 3D effect without glasses.

Well your post kind of answers itself. Maybe you didnt read carefully enough.

The PS4 supports 3D games at launch, but there are no 3D games at launch. The PS4 does NOT support 3D bluray movies at launch, but may with a firmware update.
The XBox One does not support 3D Bluray at launch, but may with a firmware update, although they dont mention 3D game support

I really think this is a non issue at the moment.

I like Blu-ray seeing as it is quite a bit better than a regular CD but not being able to play 3D is okay with me seeing as I usually can not stand looking at most 3D for more than a couple minutes at best.

I just wanna let you know that you sound like a huge Xbox fanboy right there, bro. Don't be a fanboy.

Regardless, I couldn't care less about this 3D Blu-Ray feature on either console.

I updated the post not her. Check the notes. Maybe you didn't read it carefully enough.

I dont really see what i missed. It still says the same thing as i saw yesterday?

Still stand by the fact that 3D Bluray is a gimmick that wont mature anyway.

Honestly, i don't think it would be that of a huge problem.
Not many people today use Blu-ray, not to say about Blu-ray 3D.
For those who do, of course it might be a turnoff, but what's done is done.
And, in my opinion, the microsoft's market won't suffer a bit.

News are news - bad or good.
Since there will be no 3D Blue ray on both X1 and PS4, this, in my opinion isn't even a thing to chat about.
Those who need 3D BR just have to get the player. Console is a console after all.

Damn! I read about it a long time ago, but thought it was rumor.
That's a huge turn down for me, cause i have a bunch of those 3D BlueRay movies.
What a waste. :(

if it exists - then people use it. Its not like a startup project or something. You want to watch 3D on BlueRay - here you go. If you don't - don't. Simple as that.
It's good in my opinion that X1 does not support it - in the other case the price would go up for sure
