Xbox One XB1 & PS4 will NOT play 3D Blu-rays at launch

I can't believe that neither system will feature Blu Ray discs at first. I mean I am not a fan of Playstation, but I can't believe that it will not be featuring Blu Ray discs.

I think you're confused. This post is about 3D Blurays, not standard.

I just purchased a new 55" Panasonic with 3D capability.

I did my research and did a LOT of running around Leeds (UK) city centre stores checking out picture quality, along with a lot of other shoppers.

Time and again, they were asking about 3D models. So I don't think it's dying out at all.

Also, a number of customers in the GAME shop were asking for 3D copies of films.

So I disagree that the format is dying, based on my observations.

I think the 3D adoption is influenced by geography.
Seeing that ESPN has ditched 3D services.

My fave disk is Dredd 3D so I was miffed it wouldn't play on my one.
So I had to find an alternate method of playing my movie.
There are quite a few titles out there. Just about every movie release these days are 3D

Do you think Gravity will be released as 2D only ?

So, please Microsoft, give us that facility (and DD5.1 !!!). There a lot of us out here.

What 3D needs is an utter show stopper. I'm sure Gravity will nudge Microsoft in the right location.

Hmmm... well, I'm not much of a fan for 3D Blu-Ray so I'm not worried about it... yet. The only 3D I'm a fan of is the 3DS's 3D but other than that, not much of a fan. And even if I did like 3D Blu-Ray, I'd just opt for a separate BluRay for that.

I never really watch Blu-Ray DVD's anyway so it doesn't really bother me. I would have thought the PS4 would be able to play Blu-Ray though. Strange that they didn't implement it. I'm going to wait a bit before buying any console. They're always going to have issues with the first models that come out so it's better to wait until they sort out all their issues first before purchasing a console.

Well your post kind of answers itself. Maybe you didnt read carefully enough.

The PS4 supports 3D games at launch, but there are no 3D games at launch. The PS4 does NOT support 3D bluray movies at launch, but may with a firmware update.
The XBox One does not support 3D Bluray at launch, but may with a firmware update, although they dont mention 3D game support

I really think this is a non issue at the moment.

Yeah, the keyword is AT LAUNCH. It will support 3D BluRay in the near future through patches, so we don't have to worry about it in the meantime. If some are keen on getting the 3D, there are already Bluray in the market that support the 3D. 'Course it'll cost them extra money but still, at least there's options. Just wait for the patch in the meantime.

Bascially guys, the future will have patches for these consoles to support the 3D Bluray. We all have to wait for the companies to make it so that the PS4 and Xbox One can support 3D Bluray. So until that happens, let's all just relax and enjoy the games. If you're that eager to get 3D, then buy a Bluray that supports 3D. Problem solved.

Regardless, I couldn't care less about this 3D Blu-Ray feature on either console.

Some of my friends aren't eager fans of the 3D either. Yeah, same here. No need to worry about it. Unless 3D is the only way to save humanity, I'll stick to the non-3D. The only 3D I like is the 3DS but other than that, eh... no need for me.
